「TISDC」Creates a Platform for Young Designers Worldwide
「2012 Taiwan International Student Design Competition」is starting its online submission on 1st June, which is the 5th year of this global contest. This year, the Ministry of Education of Taiwan is awarding the Grand Prix winner NT$400,000 (approx. US$12,000), hoping to attract young and talented designers worldwide.
The winner of Grand Prix 2011 is created by a team of 8 from Kun-Shan University in Taiwan, the animation《The Light Eater》depicts the little polar bear attacking the lighting systems in the city, in hope to urge people to face the problem of global warming. The jury said that the work is not only original but also well executed, which makes it the winner of Grand Prix of 2011. This animation also enters The Berlin International Short Film Festival and the Animation Festival of Pompidou Centre. The design team leader of《The Light Eater》Shu-Fu Yang, revealed that they have worked on the script for 6 months, and in the last 3 months of production, they could only slept 3 hours a day on average! However their effort truly worth it as they won the first prize!
2011 Taiwan International Student Design Competition received about 3900 participating works from 31 countries, including Singapore, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Brazil, UK, Lithuania, Slovak Republic and so on, which is the greatest result in the history of the competition. The winning works were selected by International Judging panel, comprised by 14 experts who came from different countries. In the end, the Grand Prix went to《The Light Eater》, designed and produced by 8 students from Kun-Shan University, who were also won NTD 400,000 and the awarding cup!
