2026 TISDC《Campus Lecture：Circular Economy》National Taipei University of Technology

The 2026 TISDC Campus Promotion Program continues to visit universities across Taiwan, engaging students in discussions on how design can respond to contemporary challenges. This time, TISDC Co-Host Huang Kuang-Ting led the team to National Taipei University of Technology to introduce the 2026 TISDC theme and competition information, encouraging students to transform creative ideas into meaningful actions through design thinking and innovation. ✨

The lecture featured architect Chou Shu-Hsien, whose expertise spans both architecture and landscape design. Centered on the themes of Sustainability and Resilience, he guided students in exploring how spatial design can address pressing environmental challenges such as extreme weather, global warming, and rising sea levels. 🌍

During the lecture, Chou redefined the concept of a “Resilient City,” emphasizing that resilience is not about resisting nature, but about building adaptability and recovery capacity that enable cities and environments to withstand disruption and continue evolving. 🌱

Through a series of case studies—including the soil remediation proposal for the Taipei Railway Workshop, the redevelopment of the Philadelphia Navy Yard, the environmental improvement project around Guanpu Elementary School in Hsinchu, and New York’s Oyster-tecture initiative—students gained insights into how ecological restoration, material reuse, and nature-based solutions can create sustainable and resilient environments. 💡

Chou also encouraged students to develop both strategic and poetic dimensions in their design practice. Beyond addressing functional and environmental issues, designers should strive to create meaningful spatial experiences that reconnect people with nature and inspire a more sustainable future. ✨
