On May 3rd,  2021, held at Department of Industrial Design of Ming Chi University of Technology, the 2021 Design Masters Lecture Series – Campus Lecture : Circular Economy V attracted more than 50 people to participate. Designer Mr. Chia-Hsiang Wang gave us a lecture by the topic of ‘Circular Design and Material Choices’. He provided a new perspective towards circular design and uses ‘discover problem’ as an opening, elaborating the environmental friendly status quo in Taiwan, examples of circular design and material choices. Thanks to Mr. Chia-Hsiang Wang’s sharing. TISDC would like to give thanks to Department of Industrial Design of Ming Chi University of Technology for the strong support and assistance for making this event a successful one. Due to the great support from TPCA foundation, TISDC is honoured to have the chance to hold the lecture in the theme of circular economy and to provide different aspects of thoughts and observations in the field of design. TISDC is excited for more great works to come this year.

On May 4th, the promotional campaign was hold at Ming Chuan University!

A short opening was given by Prof. Wan-Li Wei in the beginning, then the project manger Yi-Ying Chen explained the competition regulations of 2021TISDC and the online registration steps. The theme of 2021TISDC is“Regenerate”which is related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the United Nations in 2015. By connecting the theme of 2021TISDC to the SDGs, we hope young student designers could solve global sustainable development issues and think outside the box, gain more inspiration with different concepts and that they could encourage each other through this competition. Ming Chuan University has always being very supporting in the design education in Taiwan, so we hope to see more great works in this year’s competition.

Finally, we would like to give our thanks to Prof. Chi-Tug Hung, secretary Ms. Tsai, Prof. Wei, and other teachers for the perfect arrangement and assistance of this event.

Vision Get Wild is a design festival dedicate from Industrial Development Bureau. In addition to competitions, exhibitions, and film festivals, international masters were invited as speakers to communicate with students during the event. Each year it attracts thousands of works to participate in the competition, and about 100,000 people watch it, creating a stage for creative young talents to publish.

This year is the 11th Broadcasting Awards. Both the Taiwan International Student Design Competition and the Vision Get Wild are based on the original intention of students, hoping to discover creative design talents and outstanding works, and provide new design talents with an international stage to show themselves.

On 6th May, the executive team of 2021 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (2021TISDC) take the chance went to the Vision Get Wild for promote 2021TISDC.

We hope that more students will participate in this competition through this promotion activity, so that their design works will be internationalized!

The 2021 Taiwan International Student Design Competition has launched its promotional campaign tour around all the design schools and colleges in Taiwan. The theme of the competition this year is “Regenerate”.

The associate project director of the Taiwan International Student Design Competition, Prof. Meng-Chih Lin visited Tatung University to promote the competition on May 10th. Around 70 teachers and students joined the session. Prof. Lin was delighted to communicate face to face with the students and share with them the information of this year’s competition.

Special thanks were given to Chairman of Media Design, Prof. Wen-Yuan Lee and Prof. Shu-Ying Chiang for rounding off this promotional campaign with strong support and great arrangement. Targeting on the theme of this year’s competition, “Regenerate,” Prof. Lin pointed out some detailed information about the competition and shared some of the winning works of last year’s competition in order to inspire the students to think in a more creative way and raise their willingness to join the competition. TISDC looks forward to seeing students from Tatung University stand on the stage to receive this year’s awards.

May 11th, 2021, the project manager of the Taiwan International Student Design Competition, Ms. Patricia Hsu came to Tatung University for publicity and promotion. There were about 40 teachers and students participated in the scene. This activity not only introduced the competition methods to the participating teachers and students in detail and introduces the achievements of the Taiwan International Student Design Competition over the years, but also shared last year’s award-winning works, hoping to encourage students to participate actively, seize the opportunity, and actively strive for high prizes.

The theme of this year’s competition is “Regenerate “. In recent years, the international exchanges that everyone was accustomed in the past have been greatly impacted by COVID-19. By the theme of “Regenerate”, we think about how to break through the framework, start from the heart and open up an innovative path.

The Environmental Sustainability Award sponsored by TPCA Environment Foundation has added an award in visual design category this year. The foundation looks forward to seeing students extend the sustainable development goals (SDGs). Incorporate environmental protection issues in design works as the direction of design. Hope the design work can solve global sustainable development issues.

Finally, we would like to thank Associate Prof. Chia-Hua Lin, Prof. Chia-He Hsueh, Prof. Wan-Yi Chen and all the students for their support and assistance in making the promotion activities go smoothly and successfully!

The first stop of the overseas promotion has started in Japan. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, TISDC has specially invited Yosuke Okamoto, the chairman of Central Nagoya Creators Association, as the promotional representative in Japan. Aichi Design College participated in our overseas promotion this year. There were two on-site promotions on both May 13th 2021 and May 19th 2021 respectively with a total of 57 participants including teachers and students.

Special thanks to Chairman Yosuke Okamoto for his support in making the whole event a huge success. We also hope that colleges and universities in Japan continue to follow up on our competition. Furthermore, we hope everyone can enter our competition with your outstanding works.

On May 26th, 2021, the Online Campus Lecture: Circular Economy VII was held at the Department of Visual Communication Design of Asia University and attracted more than 52 participants. Lecturer Mr. Zheng-Xiong Lin gave us a lecture by the topic of ‘Linoleum-Textile waste recycling applications, Tough, waterproof and flame-retardant plastic wood’. He created a new material Linoleum and applied it in many aspects.

Thanks to Mr. Zheng-Xiong Lin’s sharing, TISDC would like to give thanks to Department of Visual Communication Design of Asia University for the strong support and assistance for making this event a successful one. On May 26th 2021, Ms. Yu-Chin Chang, manager of the EPEA Taiwan, was invited to give a lecture at the 2021 International Design Masters Lecture Series – Campus Lecture: Circular Economy VI on “Cradle to Cradle: Creating a circular economy with innovation, high quality, and good design”. Although the whole lecture was carried out through a livestream due to the pandemic, more than 100 participants joined in this event.

According to the topic of this lecture, Ms. Yu-Chin Chang explained the importance and meaning of circular economy by using petals of a flower falling back onto the ground becoming nutrients for the soil as a metaphor of creating a cycle or “Cradle to Cradle”. By holding on to the concept of C2C while continuing to innovate, economy, society, and environment can reach a balance. All students and teachers have learned a lot thanks to Ms. Chang’s lecture.

Special thanks to the Department of Chemical Engineering & Materials Science of Yuan Ze University for their assistance and the TPCA Foundation for their support in making the Campus Lecture: Circular Economy VI a huge success. We hope this event will not only create new sparks for the 2021 TISDC but also provide different aspects of thoughts and observations for the students and teachers who participated in this event.

On May 28th, 2021, the Online Campus Lecture: Circular Economy VIII attracted about 30 participants. Designer Zheng-Xiong Li, co-founder of Twine gave the students and teachers of National Cheng Kung University a lecture by the topic of“Fashion Revolution”.

Designer Mr. Vinka Yang started the lecture with the issue of Xinjiang cotton. He asked that “Who made my clothes? ”and have you ever thought that where the clothes be made in except for considering the style, price and good fit. By thinking these questions, Designer Yang have been to many countries of Southeast Asia to explore and research before the coronavirus outbreak He overcame many limits, such as language, time, weather and so on. He also tried to make the clothes production to be cost hyalinization. Twine is unlike other clothing brand and Twine is selling the manufacturing process. There’s a new prospect under the coronavirus world. Twine brought the native mountains into design works last year. By means of the inspiration about air and cloud, Twine believed that it will brings different creativity.

Many thanks to Mr. Vinka Yang’s sharing. We believed that all the participants were were glad to learn more about environmental sustainability.
