On March 28^th (Thu.) and 29^th(Fri.), the project director of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), Prof. Apex Lin, and the associate project director, Prof. Shin-Fu Lee, led the executive team to visit and promote TISDC in Tianjin area of China. About 200 teachers and students from Tianjin Normal University and Tianjin University of Science & Technology joined the promotional event.

The project director of TISDC, Prof. Apex Lin Pang-Soong mentioned that “Empathy” is the theme of this year’s competition and it’s a concept rooted in affective commitment. Therefore, for students who would like to participate in this year’s competition, they are encouraged to think and design from diversified perspectives. In addition to pointing out the detailed information about this year’s competition, Prof. Lin also encouraged students to keep accumulating their design energy and to participate in the competition actively, which definitely would evoke young designers’ infinite possibility!

The promotional campaign had rounded off and special thanks were given to all the teachers and students who joined it together. We hope this year TISDC could receive even more entries from students in Tianjin area and provide young designers with a platform for them to show the world their design works and creativity.

On April 1^st(Mon.), the project director of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), Prof. Apex Lin, and the associate project director, Prof. Jun-Hong Chen, promoted TISDC at Shanghai Institute of Design, China Academy of Art. Around 80 teachers and students joined the promotional event.

The project director of TISDC, Prof. Apex Lin Pang-Soong, mentioned that “Empathy” is the theme of this year’s competition and it’s a concept rooted in affective commitment. Therefore, for students who would like to participate in this year’s competition, they are encouraged to think and design from diversified perspectives. On 9^th April (Tue.), the associate project director of TISDC, Prof. Melvyn Liao was honored to go to Tunghai University to promote the competition. We gave our great appreciation to Prof. Li-Hui Lee for helping us arrange this promotional campaign. About 100 teachers and students from the Department of Industrial Design participated in the campaign. It’s our great pleasure to have exchange with students at Tunghai University and share the information of this year’s competition with them.

Targeting on the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy,” Prof. Melvyn Liao introduced the competition to the attendees and shared some of the winning works of last year’s competition with them. Prof. Liao not only encouraged the students to actively cultivate their design skills and try to view things from different perspectives but also gave several examples of how to integrate this year’s theme, “Empathy,” into design works. Special emphasis was also put on this year’s ITRI Innovation Award of Brand Specified Category, sponsored by Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). ITRI will provide winning students of this category with both the rewards and the opportunities to cooperate with the best research and development team of the industry. This year, we expect to see more excellent works from Tunghai University to participate in TISDC.

2019 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) has launched its promotional tour at many of the design schools and colleges in Taiwan. The theme of this year’s competition is “Empathy”!

The associate project director of TISDC, Prof. Jun-Hong Chen, visited Ming Chuan University to promote the competition on April 10^th. Around 120 teachers and students joined the session. Prof. Chen was delighted to communicate with the students face to face about design in our daily life and introduce TISDC to the attendees.

Special thanks were given to Dean of School of Design, Prof. Chi-Tung Hung, and Chair of Department of Commercial Design, Prof. Kao Chih-Chuan, for helping organize the promotional campaign. Targeting on the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy,” Prof. Chen pointed out some detailed information about the competition and shared some of the winning works of last year’s competition in order to inspire the students to think in a more creative way and raise their willingness to join the competition. We look forward to seeing students from Ming Chuan University stand on the stage to receive this year’s awards!

It’s our pleasure to have exchange with students at Hsing Wu University and share the information about this year’s competition with them.

Special thanks were given to Prof. Shang-Hua Wu, Dean of Design College, Prof. Shan-Yi Jau of Department of Digital Design, and Prof. Bo-Kai Kang and Prof. Yung-Tzuen Wong of Department of Commercial Design for attending and supporting this promotional campaign. Targeting on the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy,” Prof. Lin pointed out some detailed information about the competition and shared some of the winning works of last year’s competition in order to inspire the students to think in a more creative way and raise their willingness to join the competition. Special emphasis was also put on this year’s Brand Specified Category, sponsored by Industrial Technology Research Institute, which will provide students with the opportunities to cooperate with the industry.

Prof. Lin encouraged students to focus on sharpening their professional skills, broadening their horizons, increasing their ability to perceive things from different perspectives, and seizing every chance to accumulate their energy in design, to have exchanges with others and to learn from others. This year, we expect to see more excellent works from Hsing Wu University to participate in TISDC.

A Look into 2019 Taiwan International Student Design Competition’s Promotional Campaign – New Era University College & INTI Center of Art and Design, April 10^th

On the third day of Taiwan International Student Design Competition’s (TISDC’s) promotional trip to Malaysia, the associate project directors, Prof. Ming-Lung Yu, Prof. Shi-Fu Lee and Lecturer Miira Lin, led the executive team to visit and promote TISDC at New Era University College and INTI Center of Art and Design on 10^th April. Around 190 teachers and students joined the promotional events together.

The theme of 2019 TISDC, “Empathy,” is a concept rooted in affective commitment. Prof. Yu not only reminded the students to view things from diverse perspectives and make good use of creative thinking when designing but also shared some of the winning works that TISDC received before with the attendees, hoping to spark their creativity.

Promoting TISDC at INTI Center of Art and Design

Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), a remarkable international competition in Taiwan design education, is in its twelfth year. Led by the associate project directors of TISDC, Prof. Ming-Lung Yu, Prof. Shi-Fu Lee and Lecturer Miira Lin, the executive team of TISDC visited Malaysia on 9^th April and promoted TISDC at Raffles College of Higher Education Kuala Lumpur and First City University College. In total, around 130 teachers and students joined the promotional events together.

Targeting on the theme, “Empathy,” of this year’s competition, the associate project director of TISDC, Lecturer Miira Lin, not only introduced the history of TISDC to the attendees but also shared some of the winning works with everyone, hoping to inspire the students who are interested in joining the competition and creating some sparkles in diverse cultures and design. Prof. Lee and Prof. Yu encouraged students to accumulate their design energy, view things and difficulties from distinct perspectives, and try their best to stand in others’ shoes when solving problems and doing design.

On 11^th April, 2019, the executive team of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) was led by the associate project directors, Prof. Ming-Lung Yu, Prof. Shi-Fu Lee and Lecturer Miira Lin, to promote this year’s competition at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Raffles College of Higher Education, and Temasek Polytechnic. Around 200 teachers and students joined the promotional events together.

The associate project director of TISDC, Lecturer Miira Lin, revealed that “Empathy” is the theme of this year’s competition and it’s a concept rooted in affective commitment. Thus, Lecturer Lin encouraged students to observe and think from different perspectives and most importantly try to stand in others’ shoes when facing and solving problems. These are also what designers should do when they do their design works. During the promotional event, Lecturer Lin, shared some of the winning works that TISDC received before with the attendees as well. Prof. Lee and Prof. Yu also encouraged students to actively participate in international design competitions, which is a good way to sharpen young designers’ design skills and broaden their horizons.

On 15^th April, 2019, the project manager of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), Ms. Huang, led the promotional campaign of TISDC at the Department of Architecture of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) with the project manager of the Sprout Project of Design-International Design Competition (IDC). Around 70 faculty and students participated in the campaign. Project manager Ms. Huang not only pointed out some detailed information about this year’s competition but also shared what TISDC has done so far with the attendees. She encouraged students to participate in the competition and compete for high prize money actively as well as motivated them to accumulate their design energy by participating in design competitions.

This promotional campaign targeted on the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy.” Ms. Huang shared some of the winning works of last year’s competition in order to inspire the students to think in a more creative way and raise their willingness to join the competition. Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) is in its twelfth year and the theme of this year’s competition is “Empathy.” On 17^th April, the associate project director of TISDC, Prof. Ming-Lung Yu, led the executive team to promote the competition at Shilin High School of Commerce. Around 250 faculty and students joined the event together.

During the event, Prof. Yu focused not only on how to integrate the concept of “Empathy” into design works of different participating categories but also on analyzing the winning works of last year, hoping to encourage students’ creativity and innovation as well as broaden their horizons. Prof. Yu also reminded the students about the importance of enhancing their design skills, viewing things from different perspectives, and seizing every opportunity to participate in design competitions. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to fail.

Special thanks to Teacher Kuo-Wen Chung, head of the Department of Advertisement Design at Shilin High School of Commerce, for helping TISDC’s executive team arrange for the promotional event. Prof. Ming-Lung Yu presented the certificate of appreciation to Head Kuo-Wen Chung for his assistance and support.

Organized by Taiwan Ministry of Education and executed by Asia University, Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) held an advisory council meeting on Sunday, 21th April, 2019. Doctoral students studying in Taiwan who are also teachers in China were widely invited to join the event together to know more about the competition. The executives of TISDC hoped these teachers could bring the information of TISDC back to the schools they teach to encourage their students to participate in it actively.

TISDC is now in its twelfth year. Four categories, Product Design, Visual Design, Digital Animation, and Brand Specified, are included in the competition. This year, for the very first time, Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) collaborated with TISDC and sponsored the Brand Specified Category. ITRI is responsible for providing existing industrial techniques to participants to apply these techniques into their design works and come out with products with high additional value. This way would give young designers a stage to show their creativity to the world.

This advisory council meeting provided an opportunity for the doctoral students from China and studying in Taiwan to gather together. Around 50 of them from 30 schools of China participated in the event. Teacher Zhou Lin, a doctoral student of National Taiwan Normal University, mentioned that the design research methods of China are quite different from those of Taiwan. Through this promotional event, TISDC provided a precious opportunity for design education change between Taiwan and China.

Prof. Apex Lin, project director of TISDC, indicated that through years of endeavor, the international visibility of TISDC has significantly enhanced. In 2018, TISDC received more than 20,000 entries from 895 schools and departments in 66 countries/regions. Starting from 2017, in order to implement the New Southbound Policy of Taiwan Ministry of Education, TISDC executive started to establish a real exchange platform with the New Southbound Policy countries to maintain the execution power and expandability of the competition and to encourage students from those New Southbound Policy countries to participate in the competition actively. The steady increase in the participating countries/regions shows that the competition has reached an internationally recognized level and surpassed other similar student competitions. Thus, one can say that TISDC is the most influential student competition of scale.

Once again, the executive team of TISDC would like to express their appreciation to those who participated in the advisory council meeting with their precious suggestions. Through this promotional campaign, TISDC hoped to attract more teachers and students to participate in the competition and reach the next milestone together.

On 25^th April 2019, the project manager of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), Ms. Chen, with the project manager of International Design Competition, Ms. Lu, went to Shu-Te University to promote TISDC and its theme of 2019, “Empathy.” Roughly 100 faculty and students joined the promotional event together. The purpose of the event is to encourage design students to actively participate in the competition and pursue for the awards. The theme of 2019 TISDC is “Empathy,” a concept that is strongly related to our daily life and could be easily expressed by design works. Therefore, we hope students could seize this opportunity to show the world their excellent works. We believe that design students could enhance their creative thinking and cultivate their design skills by participating in international design competitions. On April 24, 2019, the project manager of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), Ms. Luby Chen, led the campus promotional campaign of TISDC at National Taipei University of Business with the project manager of the Sprout Project of Design-International Design Competition (IDC). We are grateful for the active participation of the Department of Digital Multimedia Design. Around 120 teachers and students participated in the promotional campaign. Special thanks were given to the chairman, Prof. En-Hang Chen, and the assistant professor, Tina Wei, for assisting TISDC to arrange the event and promote the competition. Around 150 teachers and students participated in the campaign. It’s TISDC’s great pleasure to have the opportunity to have exchange with students of Fu-Hsin Trade and Arts School and share the information of this year’s competition with them.

The online registration and submission of the largest student design competition in the world, “2019 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC)” starts today!

Four categories are included: Product Design, Visual Design, Digital Animation, and Brand Specified Categories (sponsored by Industrial Technology Research Institute).

TISDC is organized by the Ministry of Education (Taiwan), executed by Asia University, and sponsored by iSee Taiwan Foundation, Sayling Wen Cultural & Educational Foundation, and Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) this year. This is the very first time that ITRI collaborates with TISDC and sponsors the Brand Specified Category. Participants of this category are given the existing techniques provided by ITRI, and should integrate the ideas of these techniques into their design works, which will be a great opportunity for participants to go deeper into the industry, turn their design ideas into really products as well as show the world their creativity and design power at the same time.

The total prize money is up to US$160,000.

2019 Taiwan International Student Design Competition has started its promotional tour and promote this year’s competition at many high schools and universities in Taiwan. On 30^th April, the associate project director of TISDC, Prof. Jun-Hong Chen, was invited by the Department of Visual Communication Design of TransWorld University, to introduce 2019 TISDC. Around 40 faculty and students attended the event. Special thanks were presented to Prof. Yu-Yu Liu, for helping us arrange the event and being so supportive. Prof. Chen not only introduced the rules of the competition but also shared some ideas of how to integrate the concept of empathy into design works. The students were encouraged to cultivate their design skills, and try their best to observe and think from different perspectives, which definitely will make their designs more diverse and unique. We look forward to all the good design works from TransWorld University to participate in this year’s competition.

The associate project director of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), Prof. Shin-Fu Lee, was invited to promote this year’s competition at National Taichung University of Science and Technology on 2^nd May. Prof. Lee was delighted to talk face-to-face with design students of the university and shared with them the information of TISDC.

The promotional campaign was a success owing to the assistance and hospitality of the associate professors, Ms. Yu-Yan Zhan and Ms. Chun-Chun Hou. Around 40 teachers and students participated in the session. Targeting on the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy,” Prof. Lee gave a thorough introduction on how to participate in the competition and shared some of the winning entries with the attendees, hoping to motivate students to think in a more creative way and try their best to observe things from different perspectives. Prof. Lee also reminded the students about the importance of accumulating their energy in design and participating in design competitions actively. TISDC looks forward to all the works from National Taichung University of Science and Technology!
