The 2026 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) brought together a total of 97 professional jury members across its five competition categories for the preliminary selection. The jury included design experts from Taiwan, Japan, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Mexico, and other parts of the world. With their diverse professional perspectives, the jury selected outstanding works that showcase the creativity of a new generation of designers.

Following the completion of the preliminary selection, TISDC held the Preliminary Jury Chairpersons’ Joint Meeting on August 17. Jury chairpersons representing the five competition categories—Product Design, Visual Design, Digital Animation, Architecture and Landscape Design, and Fashion Design—attended the meeting on behalf of their respective jury panels to review, discuss, and exchange views on the preliminary selection results and shortlisted entries.

During the meeting, the jury chairpersons engaged in in-depth discussions on the shortlisted works, sharing their observations and perspectives from different professional fields and evaluation approaches. Through the exchange of diverse opinions, they further built consensus and clarified the evaluation directions and criteria for each category.

In addition, the jury chairpersons raised questions and offered suggestions regarding this year’s evaluation process, while also sharing the key aspects and criteria they considered when reviewing the entries. Their discussions covered various dimensions, including creativity, design concepts, and overall execution, providing diverse and professional perspectives for the subsequent evaluation process.

Through this joint meeting, TISDC not only confirmed the preliminary selection results but also continued to refine its evaluation mechanism through professional dialogue across different fields. We sincerely thank all 97 professional jury members from around the world for their contributions and support, as well as the jury chairpersons for their valuable insights and suggestions. We look forward to seeing the shortlisted works demonstrate even more outstanding design creativity in the upcoming final selection.

TISDC 2026 continues to expand its international outreach!

TISDC was invited to participate in an exchange event organized by the TaiwanICDF, bringing together 21 government officials and academic representatives from nine countries across Latin America and other regions in Taipei to share Taiwan’s experience in design talent development and TISDC’s international achievements. 🤝

During the event, Professor Emeritus Lin Pan-Song, founder of the Taiwan Art and Design Talent Development Program, shared Taiwan’s long-term efforts in design education and talent cultivation. Associate Professor Chen Yan-Ting, Principal Investigator of TISDC, introduced the competition’s international network and how TISDC provides a global platform for young designers to showcase their creativity through international competitions and exchanges. 🎨

The exchange was filled with lively discussions, with representatives from Paraguay, Argentina, Chile, and Mexico sharing perspectives on design education, talent development, and future collaboration. They also expressed interest in further promoting TISDC and strengthening international design exchanges. 💡

Through this exchange, more international partners gained a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s design education and TISDC, opening up new possibilities for design connections between Taiwan and Latin America. We look forward to welcoming more young designers from around the world to TISDC, where creativity can transcend borders and shine on the international stage! ✨

The 2026 TISDC Campus Promotion Program continues to visit universities across Taiwan, engaging students in discussions on how design can respond to contemporary challenges. This time, TISDC Co-Host Huang Kuang-Ting led the team to National Taipei University of Technology to introduce the 2026 TISDC theme and competition information, encouraging students to transform creative ideas into meaningful actions through design thinking and innovation. ✨

The lecture featured architect Chou Shu-Hsien, whose expertise spans both architecture and landscape design. Centered on the themes of Sustainability and Resilience, he guided students in exploring how spatial design can address pressing environmental challenges such as extreme weather, global warming, and rising sea levels. 🌍

During the lecture, Chou redefined the concept of a “Resilient City,” emphasizing that resilience is not about resisting nature, but about building adaptability and recovery capacity that enable cities and environments to withstand disruption and continue evolving. 🌱

Through a series of case studies—including the soil remediation proposal for the Taipei Railway Workshop, the redevelopment of the Philadelphia Navy Yard, the environmental improvement project around Guanpu Elementary School in Hsinchu, and New York’s Oyster-tecture initiative—students gained insights into how ecological restoration, material reuse, and nature-based solutions can create sustainable and resilient environments. 💡

Chou also encouraged students to develop both strategic and poetic dimensions in their design practice. Beyond addressing functional and environmental issues, designers should strive to create meaningful spatial experiences that reconnect people with nature and inspire a more sustainable future. ✨

✨ The 2026 TISDC Campus Promotion Tour arrived at Asia University!

Led by TISDC Co-Host Lin Meng-Chieh, the team visited Asia University to engage with students and faculty from design-related departments, sharing competition information, participation guidelines, and international exchange opportunities. The event encouraged students to use design as a tool to address contemporary challenges and create meaningful impact. 🎨

This session featured a special lecture by Yen-An Chen, a practitioner in circular economy and interdisciplinary design. Through a range of research projects and real-world case studies, he invited students to rethink the essence and value of design. 💡

During the lecture, Chen emphasized that design is more than the pursuit of aesthetics—it is a process of deconstructing and reorganizing information. In an era shaped by AI and rapidly evolving digital tools, strong fundamentals and the ability to think beyond conventional frameworks remain the most essential qualities of a designer. ✨

He also shared projects such as A Day of the Sea, TAFALONG Tribal Museum, and his signage research initiative, demonstrating how design can uncover cultural value, facilitate placemaking and cultural translation, and contribute to sustainability and circular economy practices. 🌏

Through this exchange, students gained a deeper understanding of the spirit of TISDC while exploring how design can inspire social change and create new possibilities for the future. 🚀

To encourage more young talents to respond to global challenges through design, the Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) continues its campus outreach program, engaging directly with students to share the competition’s vision and the latest trends in design.

This event was led by TISDC Co-Host Professor Chun-Chih Chen, who brought the TISDC team to National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST). During the session, students and faculty members were introduced to the 2026 TISDC competition, gained insights from participation experiences, and explored current trends in international design competitions. Students were encouraged to turn their creative ideas into impactful designs and bring their work to the global stage.

✨ We were honored to invite Mr. Shih-Hsun Ou, Founder of Good Point Design and the circular lifestyle brand Hibāng Recycled Fishing Net Eyewear, as the keynote speaker. His presentation focused on the theme of “Circular Design,” offering valuable insights into sustainable innovation.

Through real-world case studies, Mr. Ou demonstrated how discarded fishing nets collected from the ocean can be transformed into products that are both functional and aesthetically appealing. He also shared several core concepts behind circular design:

🌊 Transforming discarded fishing nets into high-value products and giving resources a second life.

🔄 Building a truly circular system through thoughtful material selection, repair mechanisms, and product take-back programs.

🛠️ Extending product lifespans through modular design, reducing waste and improving resource efficiency.*

Among the many inspiring ideas shared during the lecture, one perspective particularly resonated with the audience:

“Recycled materials tell the story of a material’s past; circular materials are designed for its future. Only when both the past and the future are considered can a truly circular system be achieved.”

The lecture not only introduced students to the practical applications of circular design, but also inspired them to consider how design can become a powerful force in advancing sustainable development and creating positive change for the future.

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the connection between design education and sustainability, the 2026 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) partnered with the Department of Architecture at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) to organize a Circular Economy Workshop. Through lectures, design discussions, and project critiques, the workshop encouraged students to explore the relationship between circular economy principles and future design from the perspectives of architecture, material applications, and environmental sustainability.

Led by Associate Professor Yan-Ting Chen of NTUST’s Department of Architecture, the workshop featured Shih-Hsien Kuo, Chairman of Mausen Wood Industry, and Kui-Jung Huang, Manager of Mausen Wood Industry, who shared practical insights into FSC certification, domestic timber applications, circular building materials, and sustainable industry practices. Their presentations helped students understand how sustainable materials can be managed and applied throughout the design process, putting circular economy concepts into practice.

The lectures also explored examples of circular architecture, green building materials, and low-carbon design, demonstrating how material reuse, resource management, and interdisciplinary collaboration can enhance the sustainability of architectural and spatial design. Through these real-world cases, students gained a deeper understanding of the connection between design and environmental responsibility.

Subsequent sessions focused on architectural design development, model-making, and concept discussions, guiding students to incorporate circular thinking into their creative processes and develop design approaches that balance innovation with sustainability

The workshop concluded with a project critique session led by Po-Han Wu, Design Director of Bio-architecture Formosana Architects. Drawing on his experience in sustainable and circular architecture, Wu provided professional feedback on design strategies, material circulation, and environmental resilience, helping students further refine their projects and consider how architecture can respond to future social and environmental challenges.

In addition, TISDC promotional activities were integrated into the workshop. Associate Professor Chen introduced the 2026 competition theme, “Resilience,” and encouraged students to incorporate sustainability and social awareness into their work, using design as a means to respond to a rapidly changing world while developing global perspectives and social responsibility. 🚀🌱

The 2026 TISDC campus promotion program continued to strengthen the connection between design education and sustainability issues through a “Circular Economy Lecture” held at Shih Chien University on May 12. Through topic sharing and case study discussions, students were encouraged to rethink the relationship between fashion design, material applications, and sustainable development.

The lecture was led by TISDC Co-Director Hsieh Yung-Hsu, with fashion designer Pei-Wen Jin invited as the keynote speaker to share her observations and practical experiences in sustainable fashion and resilient design. The lecture explored the issue of fabric waste generated by traditional garment manufacturing processes and introduced the concept of “Zero Waste Design” as a way to redefine resource usage, emphasizing that material applications should not end with consumption, but instead consider how to extend the value and lifecycle of resources.

The event also featured various international sustainable design cases, including fashion works created from recycled snack packaging and banana fibers, demonstrating the diverse possibilities of circular design in transforming linear consumption into regenerative systems. Through case analyses and experience sharing, students were guided to understand that sustainability is not only about environmental protection, but also a way of rethinking the relationship between people, design, and the world.

In addition, the event included a TISDC competition promotion session led by Hsieh Yung-Hsu, introducing the 2026 competition theme “Resilience” and submission directions. Students were encouraged to integrate sustainable thinking and social observation into their creative works, using design to respond to the rapidly changing contemporary environment while cultivating innovative thinking, international perspectives, and socially conscious design practices. 🚀💡

The Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) continues to expand its global engagement by advancing to the UK, where promotional and professional exchange activities were conducted at the architectural practice of Peter Cook. This exchange was facilitated by Taiwanese architect Liu Cheng-Ju (a former TISDC award recipient) through his participation in the Ministry of Education’s Elite Cultivation Program, connecting international architectural resources and bringing diverse and forward-looking perspectives to the competition through his professional experience and global outlook.

Peter Cook is a prominent British architect and theorist, and a core member of the avant-garde architectural group Archigram. Renowned for his highly imaginative and future-oriented approach, his work has long explored the relationships between architecture, technology, and the city, exerting a profound influence on contemporary architectural discourse. His design philosophy emphasizes fluidity and flexibility of form, continuously expanding the possibilities of architecture through diverse modes of expression. In addition to his professional practice, Peter Cook has been deeply engaged in architectural education, having served as Director of the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London, where he cultivated numerous architects with global perspectives. His notable work, Kunsthaus Graz in Austria, exemplifies the innovative integration of architecture and media.

Through this exchange with international architectural professionals, TISDC not only strengthens its global influence within the design field, but also provides more inspiring perspectives and critical directions for participating works, further reinforcing its role as an international platform for design education. Moving forward, TISDC will continue to expand collaborations with international design institutions, foster cross-cultural exchange, and promote the diversified development of design education.

The 2026 TISDC campus promotion continues to strengthen the connection between design education and sustainability. On April 14, a “Circular Economy Lecture” was held at National Taiwan University of Arts, featuring thematic sharing and practical insights that guided students to explore resource reuse and material innovation from a design perspective.

The lecture was delivered by Li Tung-Yang, CEO of Real Design, who shared his brand’s practices in sustainable design and material innovation. The session provided an in-depth analysis of how waste materials can be transformed into design works with both aesthetic and commercial value. Applications included marble powder, reclaimed utility pole wood, and coal fly ash, demonstrating the diverse possibilities of circular design. 💡

In addition, the speaker addressed how to balance ideals with market realities in practical operations, while candidly discussing the challenges faced in developing materials such as coffee grounds and betel nut fiber. These insights offered students a more comprehensive understanding of industry practices. In response to the rapid development of artificial intelligence, Li further emphasized how AI can accelerate early-stage research and 3D digital modeling, as well as enable the transformation of physical materials into online databases—effectively shortening the distance between designers and international clients. 🚀

The lecture concluded by highlighting that the core value of design lies in imbuing products with emotion and cultural meaning—an aspect that technology still cannot easily replace. Through this session, students not only gained a deeper understanding of the application of circular economy in design practice, but also reflected on the future role and responsibility of design in sustainable development.

The 2026 TISDC campus promotion continues to expand across Taiwan, with a session successfully held at Yuan Ze University in March. This event adopted a workshop-based format, integrating hands-on practice with interactive exchange, guiding students to explore the relationship between design and contemporary issues from multiple perspectives, and strengthening the application and practice of design education.

The workshop was led by TISDC Project Director Associate Professor Yan-Ting Chen, who organized a “Digital Product Sustainability Design Workshop.” Students were guided to approach design from a sustainability perspective, examining the impact of digital products within environmental and social contexts. Through case studies and interactive discussions, the workshop encouraged students to transform design thinking into concrete proposals and develop practical application skills.

The event also incorporated a TISDC competition briefing, covering the 2026 submission highlights, registration process, and the core concept of this year’s theme, “Resilience.” This helped students better understand creative directions and participation strategies. By integrating hands-on learning with competition insights, students were encouraged to extend their outcomes to an international design platform, expanding both their creative vision and interdisciplinary practice.

Through continuous campus promotion and practice-oriented activities, TISDC aims to strengthen the connection between design education, industry, and international competitions, cultivating design talents with innovative thinking, sustainability awareness, and a global perspective, while encouraging young designers to respond to a rapidly changing world through design.

The 2026 TISDC Campus Promotion continues to expand its international reach. On February 11, an event was successfully held at Fukuoka Design School in Japan. This session primarily featured an exhibition of award-winning works from the 2025 TISDC, showcasing outstanding student projects from around the world. The exhibition provided local faculty and students with a valuable opportunity to closely engage with diverse design outcomes and observe emerging global creative trends. Through the presentation of project concepts and design contexts, the event guided students in understanding how design responds to different cultural perspectives and social issues, further broadening their creative horizons.

The event was also framed within the context of “Asian Design Exchange.” Fukuoka Design School has established long-term collaborative relationships with several Taiwanese design institutions, including Shih Chien University, National Taipei University of Technology, and National Yunlin University of Science and Technology. Through intercollegiate exchange, project presentations, and overseas learning experiences, these partnerships continue to cultivate design talents with global perspectives and cross-cultural understanding. During the event, Chairman Iba Yoshirō and Director of Academic Affairs Uemura Akihiro were also present, engaging in discussions with the TISDC team on design education and international collaboration.

The Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) held campus promotion and international exchange activities on March 18 and March 20, 2026, at Induk University and Hanyang University in South Korea. Through exhibitions, lectures, and academic dialogues, the events aimed to further strengthen global connections in design education.

On March 18, an exhibition of past award-winning works and an official competition briefing were held at the Induk University Art Museum. The session was led by Project Founder Professor Lin Pan-Sung and Co-Principal Investigator Professor Lin Meng-Chieh, with the presence and support of President Kim Kwang-Man and Professor Lee Min-Hyang. By integrating exhibition and student outreach, participants were able to engage directly with outstanding works and gain deeper insight into the spirit and trends of TISDC.

On March 20, activities at Hanyang University focused on academic exchange. The 2026 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), organized by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and implemented by National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, held its Expert Consultation Meeting on March 24 (Tuesday). The meeting brought together experts, scholars, and professors from design-related disciplines across universities and colleges in Taiwan, with participation from nearly 40 institutions. Discussions focused on the positioning of this year’s competition theme, institutional planning, and overall development direction, serving as a key reference for the subsequent implementation and optimization of the competition.
 

The 2026 competition theme is set as “RESILIENCE.” This theme responds to the multiple challenges facing the world today, including climate change, rapid technological advancement, social transformation, and geopolitical uncertainties. Design is no longer merely a tool for problem-solving; it has become a critical driving force for adapting to change, responding to dynamic environments, and reshaping the future. The meeting focused on diverse interpretations of “resilience” in contemporary design, encompassing environmental sustainability, technological applications, human-centered care, and social innovation. It aims to guide participants to address complex issues through interdisciplinary perspectives and propose forward-looking and practical design solutions.

Project Director Yen-Ting Chen noted that the Taiwan International Student Design Competition has long been committed to establishing an internationally influential design platform, continuously attracting global youth participation and fostering cross-cultural creative exchange. As global design trends evolve, the competition also continuously refines its thematic direction and institutional framework to respond to contemporary societal needs. It further encourages students to bridge design education with practical application, strengthening the role and value of design in social development.

During the meeting, experts also provided recommendations on the competition’s evaluation mechanisms and promotion strategies. They emphasized the importance of strengthening connections with domestic and international design education systems, as well as enhancing the integrity of the competition framework and its international visibility. The integration of diverse professional insights will contribute to optimizing the competition structure and further elevating both the quality of submissions and overall impact.

We proudly announce the winners of the 2025 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC)—the world’s largest international student design competition, hosted by the Ministry of Education. This year’s winners represent an impressive diversity of backgrounds and ideas, with outstanding works from across the globe earning recognition from an international panel of judges. Among them, students from Taiwan achieved remarkable success, receiving prestigious honors, including the Grand Prix, as well as Gold Prizes in the Visual Design and Fashion Design categories.

2025 TISDC embraces the theme “Diversity”, echoing the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The competition encourages emerging designers to reflect on the diverse dimensions of the world and everyday life, and to channel the power of design to create a more inclusive, creative, and sustainable future.

This year’s competition expanded its scope with two new categories—Architecture & Landscape Design and Fashion Design—alongside the long-established categories of Product Design, Visual Design, and Digital Animation. The addition of these new fields highlights TISDC’s commitment to fostering creative diversity and cross-disciplinary innovation. This year, TISDC received a total of 16,329 submissions from 1,029 schools across 73 countries and regions, marking a 30% increase in international entries.

In 2025, a total of 138 professional judges from across the globe participated in the TISDC evaluation process. During the preliminary round, 88 experts from 30 countries served as jurors in five categories — Product Design, Visual Design, Digital Animation, Architecture and Landscape Design, and Fashion Design — selecting 499 exceptional entries to advance to the final round. During the final evaluation, a distinguished panel of 50 judges from 15 countries — comprising 7 jurors for each of the five categories and 15 jurors for the Environmental Sustainability Award — selected 76 exceptional entries as the winners of this year’s competition. With a finalist rate of just 3.2% and an overall winning rate of 0.5%, the competition remains fiercely competitive, underscoring the excellence and rarity of the awarded works.

The TISDC comprises awards, sponsored by the Ministry of Education, which include one Grand Prix of the competition, and one Gold, Silver, and Bronze Prize, along with six Honorable Mentions in each of the five competition categories. Additionally, 21 International Design Association Special Prizes were sponsored by the iSee Taiwan Foundation, while the TPCA Environment Foundation supported 3 Environmental Sustainability Awards and 6 Regional Special Awards. Altogether, 76 prizes were awarded, with a total prize pool nearing NTD 4 million.

Among the winners, the Grand Prix is awarded to the Digital Animation Category’s Essence by WAN-YU HONG from the Taipei National University of the Arts. This work stood out for its conceptual depth and emotional resonance. The Gold Prize winners in the five categories are as follows: ZHONG-WEI LIN from the Royal College of Art (UK), won the Product Design Category with his work Reefine; YOU-ZHEN LIN, WAN-CHUN LIU, YONG-QI LAI, YI-CHING HO, HUI-CHIEH LAI, and RUO-XUAN CHEN from Ling Tung University received the Gold Prize in the Visual Design Category for their collaborative work CICADA’S TUNE; JAMES DOHERTY from the University for the Creative Arts (UK) was honored with the Gold Prize in the Digital Animation Category for his work Before Lights Out; MARINA KOIZUMI from Waseda University (Japan) received the Gold Prize in the Architecture and Landscape Design Category for her work Kabukicho Complex – A Temporary Architecture for the Excluded: Toward an Inclusive Urban Future; and HUI-PING ZHUANG from Ling Tung University won the Gold Prize in the Fashion Design Category for her work Nature’s Floating Sanctuary.

The Award Ceremony will be held on December 9 (Tuesday) at the A2 International Conference Hall, NCCU Center for Public and Business Administration Education (CPBAE) (No. 187, Jinhua Street, Da’an District, Taipei City). The Preliminary Selection of 2015 Taiwan International Student was held on September 14^th, 2015. Sixteen experts from the “Product Design”, “Visual Design”, and “Digital Animation” industries were invited to be the jury. A total of 7985 pieces of creative work from students all over the world were judged separately by jurors in different categories.

After rounds of intense debate and discussion, 184 pieces were chosen in the Visual Design Category, 72 pieces in Product Design Category, 33 pieces in Digital Animation Category, and 98 pieces in Brand Specified Category, totaling 387 pieces of nominated work.

The Final Selection will be on October 16^th. Jurors with outstanding professional background from different countries will gather in Taiwan and choose the winners of 2015. The finalists will have to submit their work again in printout, posters or paperboards.

Since “Taiwan International Student Design Competition” hosted by Youth Development Administration, Ministry of Education, has entered its eighth year, this year with the sponsorship by iSee Taiwan Foundation and Sayling Wen Cultural & Educational Foundation, top ten internationally well-known design organizations have been invited to Taiwan. They participated in “Taiwan International Student Design Competition Rankings of the Best Design Schools” preparatory meeting and “International Design Masters Lecture Series” hosted at the National Taiwan University Hospital International Convention Center on September 15^th. This cooperation has added an international perspective and credibility to this year’s design competition.

The top ten international design organizations from around the world including the representatives of Brno Biennale Association, Hong Kong Federation of Design Associations, International Council of Design, India Design Council, The International Poster Biennial in Mexico, Japan Institute of Design Promotion, Korea Ensemble of Contemporary Design, Macau Designers Association, Thailand Creative & Design Center, and Taiwan Design Center, came to Taiwan to participate in “Taiwan International Student Design Competition Rankings of the Best Design Schools” preparatory meeting. The aim was to archive the eight years of data and experience of “Taiwan International Student Design Competition,” developing a mechanism that is both fair and credible. In the future, a quantitative standard will be provided for discussions among design education and design industries. Hopefully, it can be used as the evaluation index for design schools around the world.

In the afternoon of that day, “International Design Masters Lecture Series” coordinated by the executive unit was held immediately. Five international design organization representatives include Hong Kong Federation of Design Associations – Freeman Lau, International Council of Design – William Harald-Wong, Thailand Creative & Design Center – Kittiratana Pitipanich, India Design Council – Hrridaysh Deshpande, and The International Poster Biennial in Mexico – Anglica Vilet. Designers from various parts of the world with different design thinking and cultures have distinctive approaches to the development of design field, bringing another kind of cultural stimulation to the audience.

The Final Selection of 2015 Taiwan International Student Design Competition was held on October 16^th, with 20 design experts from Taiwan and aboard participating as the jury for the evaluation. After a daylong discussion, the jurors have finally decided the winners of Grand Prix, Gold, Silver, Bronze, Honorable Mention and International Design Association Special prizes from the 387 finalists. Please find the The winner lists attached. The winners are also announced on the Youth Development Administration official website.

Generally speaking, the jurors considered the nominated works high quality and international. However, some suggested that participants should think more deeply about the theme. According to the executive, a total of 38 pieces of winning work were selected this year. It is estimated that over 4 million NTD dollars of prize money will be handed out. The awarding ceremony is scheduled to be held in the end of November, 2015. Along which there will also be an exhibition of the winning works.

The Nationwide Counselling Panel was held in Asia University on March 9. TISDC sincerely invited the number of design related scholars to participate in Counselling Panel. The aim of this event featured the promotion and marketing of 2016 TISDC. In addition, TISDC has been held for 9 years. The theme of 2016 TISDC is “OPEN”. The number of international design centers will increase to 15 design centers worldwide. TISDC played a crucial role in offering the platform for students who can broaden their horizons as interacting with international design gurus.

TISDC project director Apex Lin further addressed that the participation of nationwide senior high students greatly boosted in this competition over the past few years. The young design generation is definitely a growing trend in 2016 TISDC event. TISDC look forward to their creative ideas via the theme of “OPEN”.

In sum, dozens of the scholars shared their experience of joining 2015 TISDC. They keenly supported TISDC through their lecture such as the strategy of Brand Specified Category.

Taiwan International Student Design Competition – The world’s second large-scale student design competition and the student design award with the highest reward. The promotion for 2016 works submissions has officially started. Online registration starts from June 1^st to July 25^th. To inspire the creative design capacity of students around the world, Ministry of Education encourages the international exchange of creative design between students, looks for creative talents of the new generation, shows the international image of Taiwan’s attention for creative design, establishes Taiwan’s position in international design, and strengthens the connection between Taiwan’s design talents and the world. Taiwan International Student Design Competition has been held since 2008 and has entered its 9th year. This year’s topic is “OPEN”, and it is one of the world’s most indicative, large-scale student design competitions. Together with last year’s invited international associations and authorized awards, the competition of this year is also sponsored by the honorable Sayling Wen Cultural and Educational Foundation and up to 15 well-known international design associations will be invited to participate in it, including Brno Biennale Association, German Design Council, Good Design Australia, Hong Kong Federation of Design Associations, International Council of Design, INDEX: Design to Improve Life, India Design Council, International Poster Biennial in Mexico, Japan Institute of Design Promotion, Korean Ensemble of Contemporary Design, Macau Designers Association, Taiwan Design Center, Thailand Creative & Design Center, and South African Bureau of Standards Design Institute.

Last year, a total of up to 46 countries participated in TISDC, namely from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States…etc. Over 7900 works were submitted, which have shown the authority and the frequency of exchange between Taiwan International Student Design Competition and the international design talents. To accelerate registration, in addition to free of charge of registration fee, the registration procedure is also very simple.

Every year, the number of work submissions always hits record high. In addition, the total reward of Taiwan International Student Design Competition is even up to NT$4,600,000 (approximately US$150,000) this year. Awards include one annual grand prix, one gold prize for each category, one silver prize for each category, three bronze prizes for each category, and several awards for excellence, and brand specified category: iSee Taiwan Foundation – “New Tableware Age – Taiwan Cuisine Cutlery Design”, including five places for the first prize, five places for the prize of excellence, and several places for outstanding award. In addition, there is an international design association special award set up and authorized by 15 international design associations.

This year, Taiwan International Student Design Competition continues to open up submission of works from students around the world. Students (including graduating students and freshmen students) who are enrolled in schools above senior high schools domestically and abroad can register for participation. There are four main categories in this competition: product design, visual design, digital animation, and brand specified. Registration is accepted from June 1^st to July 25^th. Preliminary selection will be held in mid-September, and a two-stage panel selection will be held in mid-October. Selection results will be announced at the awards ceremony in late November.

Taiwan design shines in Vietnam

In response to the southbound policy of Ministry of Education (MOE), Professor of Asia University, Apex, Pang-Soong Lin, led an executive team to Vietnam to promote Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) and to encourage students in Vietnam to join.

In response to the southbound policy of Youth Development Administration, Chair Professor and project director of Asia University, Apex, Pang-Soong Lin, and Sean C.K. Lee led a team to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to promote TISDC and encourage students to partake in the competition. In April 20^th, Vietnam &Taiwan Design Education Talk was held in Nikko Hotel in Hanoi. The visit resulted in a significant achievement with 20 universities and professors joining the talk and sharing experience, analyzing strategy, and establishing communication.

TISDC is organized by the Ministry of Education, executed by Department of Visual Communication Design, Asia University. It is also sponsored by Sayling Wen Cultural & Educational Foundation, and iSee Taiwan Foundation. Last year, TISDC cooperated with 15 acclaimed international design associations to authorize awards. 2016 TISDC also attracted total 69 countries/region worldwide, 882 schools, and received more than 14,000 entries. It has become the biggest design competition with the total reward up to USD 160,000. This year, in response to the southbound policy of Youth Development Administration, Chair Professor Apex, Pang-Soong Lin, and Sean C.K. Lee lead the quadrumvirate to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. They spent 5 days from April 19-23 in Vietnam promoting TISDC.

Professor Lin explained: “It is the first time that a team from Taiwan has come to Vietnam to promote ideas of creative design. It is arguably an ice-breaking visit!” The team had visited college of arts and design in 4 well-known universities since April 19^th: Vietnam University of Fine Art, University of Architecture Ho Chi Minh City, Ton Duc Thang University, and a private university, FPT University. They promoted TISDC and introduced the competition rules.

In April 20^th, Vietnam &Taiwan Design Education Talk was held in Nikko Hotel and it was worth mentioning that the students’ award winning works were also exhibited in the venue. Professor Lin thanked Mr. Pham Huyen Kieu’s (Director of HAKI Design Company and the organizer of British Council of Education Exhibition) assistance in inviting more than 20 universities and 50 professors in Hanoi to attend the talk. It fitted perfectly with this year’s theme “Opportunity.” The team hoped to encourage outstanding students in Vietnam to join the competition and to grasp the opportunity of connecting with international design. In the venue of Vietnam &Taiwan Design Education Talk, it was rather precious that Taiwan was emphasized as the organizer of this global design competition. Moreover, Asia University has been brought up several times as being a bridge to engage in a communication of design education between Vietnam and Taiwan.

The president of Asia University, Jing-Pha Tsai highly approved this visit. He said that Asia University is having a head start over other universities in executing MOE’s southbound policy. Asia University is particularly brilliant in delivering creative design knowledge: providing the best teaching models among institutes of higher education in Taiwan as well as winning the first place in MOE’s International Design Competition. Asia University exchanges the teaching models and the experience of cultivating talents with Vietnam. In the future, Asia University will continue to develop the cooperation of design education, brand promotion, and talent cultivation between Taiwan and Vietnam. Eventually making Asia University a model and benchmark for executing MOE’s policies.

Ton Duc Thang University was named after the former Vice-President of Vietnam, Ton Duc Thang. The chairman of Graphic Design Department, Nguyen Thi Thuy Van said: “We are looking forward to seeing professors from Taiwan who aim to promote TISDC and to provide information about the competition. It is great!” Since many Vietnamese students have never joined any international design competitions, this activity has encouraged them considerably. All Vietnamese professors and students are now keen to partake in the competition. The students will continue to follow the TISDC with interest. All in all, this visit has built a platform of design education between Vietnam and Taiwan.

Established in 1982, the Young Designers' Exhibition (YODEX) has grown to become one of the most prominent design fairs in the world. YODEX is held on 19^th May (Friday). On the opening day of YODEX, TISDC Executive Team promote our competition in the condition of more than 200 oversea schools, including America, Canada, Australia, Italy and Japan. It’s an honor to have more than 9000 designers and approximately 4000 pieces of art while TISDC Executive Team are promoting our competition. The team hoped to encourage outstanding designers to join the competition and to grasp the opportunity of connecting with international design.

It is an honor for us to promote TISDC with principal investigator of the project, Professor Melvyn Liao at the Department of Media Design of Tatung University. We are grateful for the great support of Vice President Chih-Fu Wu, Director Wei-Shin Huang, Assistant Professor Chia-Hua Lin, Associate Professor Cheng-Hung Huang, and Assistant Professor Yen-Fu Chen. This time our campaign emphasizes on explaining the competition rules in detail and focuses on sharing award-winning works with students. The students are attracted to the large amount of award money and are eager to try.

It is a great pleasure to have Professor Melvyn Liao from the Department of Commercial Design of Chung Yuan Christian University to help us promote TISDC campaign to the delegation from Department of Visual Communication Design Fujian University of Technology on 16th June. This year will be a special year for the Good Design Awards as it will be celebrating their 60th anniversary. For the first time ever the Good Design Awards Ceremony will be held at the Sydney Opera House on Thurs 17 May 2018 and will be followed by the Good Design Showcase Exhibition in Sydney Harbour from Fri 25 to Sun 27 May.

TISDC co-director Professor Ming-Lung Yu, Melvyn Liao, Lecturer Mirra Lin and project manager visited the New Era University College for the TISDC promotional campaign on May 8th, 2018. 

Thanks to the assistance and arrangement of Director Hanna Chan at the New Era UC, we had a crowd of 100 teachers and students participated in the session.  Emphasising on the theme of this year’s competition, “Breakthrough & Innovation”, Professor Ming-Lung Yu gave a detailed introduction on how to join the competition and shared with the attendees the works of previous winners. By doing so, we hope to motivate more students to take part in the competition and inspire them to have more creative design ideas. 

Professor Ming-Lung Yu urged the students to accumulate their design capabilities so that they embrace more breakthrough and innovation as they create and design.  Hope the promotional campaign can attract more outstanding Malaysian students to participate in the competition.

To correspond with the New Southbound Policy, professor Ming-Lung Yu, Melvyn Liao, and lecturer Mirra Lin of Asia University led the TISDC executive team to Singapore and Malaysia. Together they embarked on a week of exchanges starting from May 6th to May 13th, 2018.  TISDC project co-directors and executive team visited three schools in Malaysia to promote the competition on May 7th: First City University, Raffles College of Higher Education Kuala Lumpur and INTI International College Subang. They have attracted 100 teachers and students for the promotional sessions.  The three of them gave their remarks with the emphasis on the theme of the competition this year, “Breakthrough & Innovation”. Through experience sharing, strategies analysis, and exchanges of dialogue, they urged the students to accumulate their energy to create, and encouraged them to embrace breakthrough and innovation as they design.  We hope this year’s competition, “Breakthrough & Innovation” gets to see more outstanding design students from abroad joining.

The promotional campaign had a successful close thanks to the strong support from Dean Siow Yin Yoong at the First City University College, Director Jason Ong at the Raffles College of Higer Education and Lecturer John Ho from the faculty of Multimedia with Animation at the INTI International College Subang. With their help the TISDC executive team got to promote the competition at the design schools in Malaysia. The team would like to encourage all the Malaysian students to follow the updates of the competition so that they could seize the opportunity to link themselves up with the world.

TISDC project co-director, professor emeritus Shin-Fu Lee led the promotional campaign to Chaoyang University of Technology on May 15th (Tuesday). It has been quite an honor for the representatives of the campaign to interact face to face with students at the Chaoyang University and share the up to date information on this year’s competition. The student attendees were enthusiastic and proactive. TISDC team hopes the future designers to be can give themselves a chance for breakthrough and innovation, so that they can create a brand new framework for design and gain global perspectives.

A sincere thank you to assistant professor Guo Min Zhuang for organizing the session. There were roughly 70 teachers and students joining the session. We would like to thank Chaoyang University of Technology for the strong support and recognition for TISDC.

TISDC project co-director professor Melvyn Liao visited Ming Chuan University for the competition promotional campaign on campus. Liao gave a clear introduction on how to enter the competition and shared with the attendees the works from previous winners in hope to beat the drum for young designers to create and design with persistence and spur the design power of the next generations. A big thank you to dean Chi-Tung Hung for gathering the Commercial Design department, the Product Design department and Digital Media Design department to join together in the session. Professor Zhi Zun Gao, lecturers Hong Tu Ke, Bo Nian Chen, Si Yu Huang, Li Yang Lin and Hong Geng Li from the Commercial Design department all came for the session. The promotional campaign attracted around 110 teachers and students for attendance.

With high spirit, the TISDC executive team headed for the Temasek Polytechnic, Nanyang Technological University and Raffles Design Institute for the promotional campaign. There were around 110 teachers and students attending the information sessions at the three institutes. Special thanks to professor Tan Tai Pang at the Temasek Polytechnic, professor Tan Khee Soon at the Nanyang Technological University and professor Terrence Chong at the Raffles Design Institute for their strong support and great arrangement. With their assistance the executive team was able to give a thorough introduction on the Taiwan International Student Design Competition to the design schools and institute in Singapore. The team encouraged all the design students to follow closely on the competition information so as to seize the opportunity to link themselves with the world. Co-director, professor Ming-Lung Yu, professor Melvyn Liao and lecturer Miira Lin gave a clear explanation on how to enter the competition and shared with the attendees the works of the winners from the previous years. The teachers and students were incentivized by the high prizes and ready take part in the competition. Hope the promotional campaign will attract more exceptional candidates in Singapore to join this year’s competition, “Breakthrough & Innovation”.

Co-Director of the Taiwan International Student Competition, professor of Asia University, Ming-Lung Yu, professor Melvyn Liao and lecturer Miira Lin led the executive team of the competition and headed for the TISDC promotional campaign on May 10th at the Singapore University of Technology and Design. The purpose of the campaign is to attract more submissions from the outstanding design students in Singapore to this year’s competition, “Breakthrough & Innovation” so that the young designers who find it hard to voice themselves in the design industry can proudly show the world their design ideology, originality and out of the box concepts.

With the great help and support from the executive assistant Lorraine Teo, the TISDC executive team was granted the opportunity to kick start an in depth promotion around the design schools and colleges in Singapore. The team also encourages all the students in Singapore to keep an eye on the upcoming information about the competition in hope to foster the opportunities for more exceptional students to link up with the world.

Professor emeritus Pang Soong Lin, project director of the TISDC, Taiwan International Student Competition took the lead to promote the competition at the Shanghai Institute of Design in Zhangjiang, Shanghai. Dean Xiaohua Wu and vice dean Xu Han of the Institute called upon the heads of three different departments and one division to participate in the promotional campaign and commissioned Wei Bin Duan, the vice dean who supervises education of the executives to assign teachers to organize and encourage this year’s graduates to submit their works to the competition. Hope this will prompt a greater growth in the talented overseas participants for the competition this year, “Breakthrough & Innovation”.

The Young Designers’ Exhibition is one of the most important joint exhibitions for design students in Taiwan to show their creativity. It is also a grand event that brings together the design energy of Taiwan on an annual basis. There are around 4000 works from 65 design schools and colleges being presented in the event every year on average. Each work shows the exuberant creative energy and concept of the new designer to be. Taiwan International Student Design Competition has a similar mission to the Young Designers’ Exhibition. The two both aim to scout for design talents and exceptional designs, and provide an international platform for emerging designers to rise and shine. TISDC is honoured to have this rare opportunity to promote the competition right at the exhibition site on May 25th. TISDC also took the chance to visit the exquisitely designed exhibition sites of different schools and enjoyed the ambience of generated by the young designers and their creation. We look forward to seeing more students join the competition, show their potential in design and step onto the international arena.

On May 25th, 2018, Nanjing University of the Arts gathered more than 40 presidents, deans and professors from design and art schools in the Jiangsu Province as well as some 60 corporate representatives from the Nanjing Creative Industry Platform. The vice president of Nanjing University of the Arts, Chengzhi Zhang and the head of the department of Art Creation and Practice, Jie Jin hosted the gathering and head of the Jiangsu Education Department Honglei Wang was in present and gave her remarks. Project directors of the Taiwan International Student Design Competition, professor Pang Soong Lin and Shin-Fu Lee, and professor Yaochun Qi from Xiamen University were invited to introduce and promote the TEDA Cup International Youth Design Competition and the Taiwan International Student Design Competition.

Special thanks to the head of Haki Group, Mr. Pham Huyen Kieu for his wonderful assistance and earnest support. Kieu has a close and friendly relationship with the Taiwan International Student Design Competition and is the key figure to the successful launch of the promotional campaign in Vietnam in accordance with the New Southbound Policy of Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. Mr. Kieu held the Introduction Session to the 2018 TISDC at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture on May 23rd, where he announced the theme of this year, “Breakthrough & Innovation” as well as presented the winning submissions from last year. Together there were 45 professors and students attending the session, and Kieu hoped this would motivate more excellent Vietnamese students to join in the competition and to seize the opportunity to link themselves up with the world.

Co-director of the Taiwan International Student Design Competition Mirra Lin visited Shilin High School of Commerce on May 23rd for the promotional campaign on campus. There was a warm crowd consisted of 200 teachers and students who joined in the session. Lecturer Mirra Lin shared with the attendees the works from previous winners of the competition and took the opportunity to motivate the students to work on their professional skills, broaden their horizon and strengthen the ability to look and think beyond. Lin also encouraged the students to submit their works to the competition, prepare themselves for more momentum to create and design. The session closed successfully thanks to the strong support and detailed arrangement from the two teachers of the Shilin High School of Commerce, Jian Ji Li and Jia Zhen Li.

The 2018 Taiwan International Student Design Competition has launched its promotional campaign tour around all the design schools and colleges in Taiwan. The theme of the competition this year is Breakthrough & Innovation.

Upon the invitation from Tunghai University, the project manager of TISDC was honoured to be promoting the competition on campus, gave a thorough introduction on how to enter the competition and shared with the students the works of previous winners. We would like to thank lecturer Guo Bin Zhang of the department of Industrial Design for inviting and organising the session for us. Lecturer Zhong Xing Wang, Yao Zong Ke and Yong Ting Chen also joined the session. There were around 50 attendees of the session. We are grateful for the warm participation from the teachers and students of Tunghai University.

On the journey of design learning, students accumulate experience and fundamental skills along the way. But there is still a long way to go for them to become a “master” of design. This year the Taiwan International Student Design Competition joined hands with the A+ Creative Festival and launched the International Creativity Forum in the evening of May 18th. The two invited designers from the countries included in the New Southbound Policy, Tri Anugrah form Indonesia, Ashish Deshpande from India and the Singapore based British designer Federico Fiore to share with the students their first hand experience, the concepts originated from their personal works and design culture in different countries. Through their sharing, we hope the students get to learn how design is applied into the daily life and ponder the nature and meaning of design. 

The New Southbound Policy aims to find new directions and momentum for the society and economic development of Taiwan. Such is also true for soft power, including culture and design, as the ever evolving and innovative design thinking is in need of new direction. We look forward to having more close cooperation with the ASEAN countries, the southern Asia countries, New Zealand and Australia, and establish a stronger and more in depth bound and exchanges with these countries.

Co-Director of the Taiwan International Student Design Competition, Professor emeritus Shin-Fu Lee visited Dayeh University in Changhua to promote the competition on campus. 55 teachers and students participated in the session. Professor Lee was delighted to have interacted face to face with the students and shared with them the detail information on this year’s competition.

A special thank you goes to the College of Design and Arts of Dayeh University for the great support, hospitality, and allowing the promotional campaign to run smoothly. Targeting on the theme of this year’s competition “Breakthrough and Innovation”, Professor Lee set forth the detailed information on  how to compete, and shared with the students the work from the winners of last year in hope to motivate the students to submit their work and inspire their creative ideas. Professor Lee also gave his opinions and analysis on the works of the previous winners. He encouraged the students to go for design competitions so that they get to see a wider range of opportunities and choices, as well as showing their talent to the world.

Co-Director of the Taiwan International Student Design Competition, Professor emeritus Jun-Hong Chen visited Kun Shan University to promote the competition on June 7th. Around 75 teachers and students joined the session. Professor Chen was delighted to communicate face to face with the students and share with them the information of this year’s competition. A special thank you goes to Dean Ling Ya Huang and the Director of the Department of Visual Communication, Zhi Wei Huang for the support and hospitality. Co-Director Chen revealed the theme of the competition this year, “Breakthrough and Innovation”. Chen gave a detailed explanation on how to enter the competition and shared with the participants of the session the winning works from last year in hope to attract more students to submit their work to the competition and inspire them to have more creative ideas. Professor Chen also illuminated his personal perspectives on the theme of the competition this year and encouraged students not to hesitate in taking part in the competition, have their works seen by the world and broaden their horizon in the discipline of design. We hope the students achieve breakthrough and innovation as they learn and make their own design, and the competition could receive more exceptional works from these emerging talents.

Co-Director of the TISDC, Mirra Lin visited Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science and launched the promotional activity for this year’s competition “Breakthrough & Innovation” on June 7th. Around 95 teachers and students joined in the session.

MirraLin gave a detailed introduction on the competition as she shared the works from the previous winners and encouraged students to proactively work on their professional skills, broaden their horizons and increase their ability to predict and perceive. Lin also motivated the students not to hesitate in joining the competition, and seize the opportunity to accumulate their energy in design, enable themselves to make more exchanges with and learn from others. The session had a successful close thanks to the strong support and detailed arrangement of Director Wen Yen Lin at the Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science.

Co-Director of the Taiwan International Student Design Competition, Professor emeritus Shin-Fu Lee visited National Taichung University of Science and Technology for the promotional campaign of TISDC on Jun 7th. Lee was delighted to talk face-to-face with the design students of the University and share with them the information on this year’s competition.

The promotional campaign was a success owing to the help and hospitality of the Associate Professor Yu-Yan Zhan. Around 80 teachers and students participated in the session.  Targeting on this year’s theme of the competition, “Breakthrough and Innovation”, Co-Director Lee gave a thorough introduction on how to enter the competition. Lee shared with the attendants the works of the previous winners in hope to motivate more students to submit their works to the competition and inspire their creative ideas.  Professor Lee also emphasised that students need to accumulate their energy in design and hoped to see more students making breakthrough and achieving innovation in the arena of design.  We hope after this we could attract more exceptional design students to join in the competition.

Promoting TIDSC at the National Taichung University of Science and Technology

Creative and design powers are emerging in Southeast Asia, the Taiwanese government launched the New Southbound Policy in recent years to strengthen ties with Southeast Asian countries. And the 2018 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) held the second New Asia Design Workshop on May 19 and 20 at Asia University in Taichung to encourage design students in Taiwan to have more international exchanges. TISDC is organized by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, executed by the Department of Visual Communication, Asia University and sponsored by iSee Taiwan Foundation and Sayling Wen Cultural and Educational Foundation. This time, three leading designers based in the countries included in the New Southbound Policy were invited as the lecturers of the workshop: Tri Anugrah from Indonesia, Ashish Deshpande from India and the Singapore based English designer Federico Fiore.  During the two-day workshop, three lecturers enlightened the students with their abundant experiences and innovative concepts in design. The three lecturers helped students strengthen their abilities in collecting ideas from local culture in Taiwan as well as expand international perspectives so that their design could be more dynamic. 

The purpose of the workshop is not only to foster international exchange, but also to create a great opportunity for design enthusiastic students to learn from the international designers in person.  The workshop attracted 85 students from 14 different high schools, colleges and universities around Taiwan to participate.  Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Ms. Yen-Yi Lee was also invited to join the event.  The New Asia Design Workshop adopted the theme of the competition this year, “Breakthrough & Innovation”, and the international lecturers guided students to brainstorm and realize their ideas. Lecturers provides the students with perspectives and thinking from different disciplines, and helped students to apply them into their design. 

To bridge the communication gap, interpreters were assigned to help students as they interact with the foreign lecturers. Without the language barriers, students were able to understand and have in-depth discussion with the lecturers. 

We received many positive feedbacks from the participants of the workshop. Many expressed that they were delighted to spend their weekend learning in the workshop, and even though the duration of the workshop was only two days, both the lecturers and the students devoted themselves fully into the event and the result was fruitful and inspiring.  The two-day workshop allowed students to get a hang of the detailed process of design thinking, acquaint with friends from different design discipline, and experience intense teamwork within two days. Participants expressed their gratitude for the Taiwan International Student Design Competition for granting them the opportunity and that wish to participate similar events in the following year.

On May 31st, Co-Directors of the Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC): Professor emeritus Jun-Hong Chen, Professor Ming-Lung Yu and Lecturer Miira Lin visited Sichuan University Jinjiang College to promote the competition. They gave a detailed introduction to the TISDC and imparted the strategies to compete in the international design competition to the attendees. Special thanks to Dean Hu Shao Zhong of the School of Art of the Sichuan University Jinjiang College for the arrangement, assistance and hospitality for the promotional session. This year, TISDC received 20,833 entries from 895 school departments/institutes of 66 countries/regions around the world and collaborated with 21 international design associations, including World Design Organization (WDO), International Council of Design (ico-D), The Bureau of European Design Associations (BEDA), the Design Alliance Asia (tDA Asia), Association for the Industrial Design (ADI), Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP), Korea Ensemble of Contemporary Design (KECD), German Design Council (GDC), India Design Council (IDC), Good Design Australia (GDA), Design Business Chamber Singapore (DBCS), Hong Kong Federation of Design Associations (FHKDA), Macau Designers Association (MDA), Taiwan Design Alliance (TdA), Brno Biennale Association (SBB), Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC), Moscow Global Biennale of Graphic Design Golden Bee (Golden Bee), Lahti International Poster Triennial (Lahti), International Poster Biennial in Mexico (IPBM), The Designers Institute of New Zealand (DINZ), and Brazil Design Center (CBD). These 21 international design associations have agreed to set up special prizes in their names, delegate representatives to serve as jurors for the competition, and participate in the series events, including the design workshop, industry forum, award ceremony, etc, in order to provide a collaborative platform for the development of creative design of the youth.

This year, for the very first time, TISDC divided the preliminary selection into the Preliminary Selection in Taiwan and the Preliminary Selection in Singapore. DBCS was in charge of collecting all the entries from Australia, New Zealand, and 11 countries/regions of Southeast Asia and South Asia and inviting designers from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Australia, England, Switzerland, South Africa, Netherlands, and Taiwan to form the jury consisting of 15 members for the Preliminary Selection in Singapore. The Preliminary Selection in Singapore was rounded off on September 7th, which successfully led TISDC to new milestones.

During the Preliminary Selection in Singapore, the organizers also held the International Design Master Lecture Series at National Design Centre on September 6th, inviting 6 members of the jury who are designers from Malaysia, India, Australia, Indonesia, Thailand and Netherlands respectively to deliver a lecture. Around 140 people were attracted to the events.

On the first day of the Preliminary Selection in Singapore, Mr. Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang, Republic of China (Taiwan)’s representative to the Republic of Singapore, and Mr. Don Chen, CEO of iSee Taiwan Foundation, delivered their opening remarks, giving recognition to TISDC for the achievements it had made and expressing their gratitude to all the professional designers from around the world for serving as jurors of the competition.

Following the Preliminary Selection in Singapore, 2018 TISDC will be holding the Preliminary Selection in Taiwan from September 14th to 16th at Howard Civil Service International House. The jury will consist of 22 design experts from Taiwan and 3 from abroad to demonstrate the credibility and diversity of 2018 TISDC.

Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) was initiated by the Ministry of Education in 2008, and this year marks its eleventh anniversary. With more and more countries/regions participating in the competition, the international visibility of TISDC has been increasing steadily. This year, TISDC received more than 20,000 entries and for the very first time held an overseas preliminary selection in Singapore, which successfully led TISDC to new milestones.

This year, for the very first time, TISDC divided the preliminary selection into the Preliminary Selection in Taiwan and the Preliminary Selection in Singapore. Design Business Chamber Singapore (DBCS) was in charge of collecting all the entries from Australia, New Zealand, and 11 countries/regions of Southeast Asia and South Asia and inviting designers from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Australia, England, Switzerland, South Africa, Netherlands, and Taiwan to form the jury consisting of 15 members for the Preliminary Selection in Singapore. The Preliminary Selection in Singapore was rounded off at National Design Centre on September 7th, which successfully led TISDC to new milestones. During the Preliminary Selection in Singapore, the organizers also held the International Design Master Lecture Series at National Design Centre on September 6th, inviting 6 members of the jury to deliver a lecture and attracting around 140 people to the events.

In the International Design Master Lecture Series, the Malaysian designer, Mr. William Harald-Wong, discussed the relationships between designs and skin-cultural encounters. The Indian designer, Mr. Sekhar Mukherjee, shared his ideas about the power of cultural collaboration in design education. The Australian designer, Mr. Brandon Gien, talked about why our world needs good design. Mr. Tarek Atrissi, a designer from Netherlands discussed the combination of Arabic typography and graphic design in current designs. Ms. Nuttawee Tangnoi, a designer from Thailand expressed her thoughts about how design influences people’s life. Last but not least, the Indonesia designer, Mr. Deddy Syamsuddin, discussed the diversity between motion and emotion in animation.

The preliminary selection in Singapore of 2018 TISDC was rounded off with the fabulous lectures given by the design experts. Special thanks are given to DBCS for the tremendous assistance and support which made the International Design Master Lecture Series such a successful event. Following the lecture series comes the two-day entry screening. Let’s look forward to the design works that will enter the Final Selection, pursuing the Grand Prix worth NT$400,000 and the awards in each of the categories.

Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), the largest-scale student design competition worldwide, is organized and promoted by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education of Taiwan, sponsored by iSee Taiwan Foundation and Sayling Wen Cultural & Educational Foundation, and executed by the Department of Visual Communication Design, Asia University. TISDC is now in its eleventh year.

The theme of this year’s competition is “Breakthrough and Innovation.” This year, TISDC received 20,833 entries from 895 schools/departments in 66 countries/regions. With the increase in the number of countries/regions participating in the competition, the international visibility of TISDC has increased as well.

The Preliminary Selection in Taiwan of 2018 TISDC was held from September 14 to 16 at Howard Civil Service International House in Taipei. The selection included the categories of “Product Design,” “Visual Design,” “Digital Animation,” and “Service Design.” The jury consisted of 22 jurors from Taiwan and 3 jurors from abroad, including Mr. Doonyapol Srichan from Thailand, Mr. Chau-Chuen Charles Ng from Hong Kong, and Mr. Yu-Chen Tom Lee from Canada.

After two days of strict and enthusiastic discussion in the Preliminary Selection in Taiwan, 123 pieces of the Product Design category, 350 pieces of the Visual Design category, 39 pieces of the Digital Animation category, and 46 pieces of the Service Design category were finally selected. A total of 558 pieces of works were nominated into the Final Selection, pursuing the Grand Prix which is worth NT$400000 and other awards in each of the categories.

Following the Preliminary Selection in Taiwan, 2018 TISDC will be holding the Final Selection on October 17th at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei. The jury will consist of 23 design experts from abroad and 9 design experts from Taiwan to demonstrate the credibility and diversity of 2018 TISDC. During the international jurors’ visits in Taiwan, the organizer of 2018 TISDC held the “International Design Master Lecture Series” at National Library of Public Information in Taichung and at Da Dong Arts Center in Kaohsiung, inviting 3 international jurors and 3 designers in different fields of Taiwan to give a speech about design. By inviting these design experts to share their experience and observations on design, 2018 TISDC would like to not only benefit the public who are passionate about design but also promote international exchange. The lectures successfully attracted a lot of interest from students and teachers who are learning or teaching design. Every session was remarkable and insightful, and the audience all responded with enthusiasm, taking the opportunity to interact with the international masters.

As the world’s largest-scale international student design contest, 2018 Taiwan International Student Design Competition has now released its winners list. This year, there are in total 20,833 participating entries, which come from 66 countries/regions and 895 design schools worldwide. There were 15 jurors in the preliminary selection in Singapore, 25 jurors in the preliminary selection in Taiwan and 32 jurors in the final selection, all of whom constituted a large jury panel with members from 26 different countries/regions. After lively discussion among these design experts, 73 winning entries were picked from the 618 finalists. With regard to the grand prix, it has been won by “A Gong” of the digital animation category and the designers of which are Yen-Chen Liu, Ellis Kayin Chan, Zozo Jhen, Tena Galovic and Marine Varguy, coming from Gobelins, l’École de l’image, France. The setting of this work is the traditional culture of Taiwanese funerals, and the animation depicts the transitions of feelings in the mind of a seven-year-old boy faced with the decease of a close family member. The atmosphere established in the animation is touching, and the storytelling resonates with most watchers. The imagery and artistic style are delicate, and the emotions are subtle and moving. “A Gong,” therefore, has received the acclaim of the majority of the jurors and won the grand prix of the year with the reward of NT$ 400,000.

Organized and promoted by the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, executed by Asia University, and sponsored by iSee Taiwan Foundation and Sayling Wen Cultural & Educational Foundation, Taiwan International Student Design Competition has marked its eleventh anniversary this year. The theme for this year is “Breakthrough and Innovation,” and the four competition categories are “product design,” “visual design,” “digital animation” and “service design.” The 73 winning entries include 1 grand prix; 1 gold prize, 1 silver prize and 3 bronze prizes for the three categories of “product design,” “visual design” and “digital animation, respectively;” 23 honorable mention prizes for these three categories altogether. The prizes mentioned above are provided by the Ministry of Education. The 73 winning entries also include 20 international design association special prizes, sponsored by iSee Taiwan Foundation; 1 gold prize, 2 silver prizes, 3 bronze prizes and 8 honorable mention prizes in the category of “service design,” also sponsored by iSee Taiwan Foundation. “Service design” is a new category this year, and the aim is to realize diverse, innovative and creative thinking in the Competition with a different form of design.

This year, the gold prizes of the four categories have all been won by Taiwanese students. The gold prize winner of the product design category, Jie-Yu Gu, comes from Shih Chien University, and her entry is titled “Safe Cloak,” which addresses the issue of the global refugee crisis. With her concern about basic human rights as the starting point, the designer’s thorough consideration for human needs can be seen in her design details. This is not just a nice-looking product or a set of equipment with good functions—it aims to put forward a solution to improve the lives of many, which is worth applause indeed. The gold prize winner of the visual design category, Xiang-Xin Wan, comes from National Taiwan University of Arts, with her entry titled “Under 1.0.” This work combines endangered animals from all over the world with eye charts, and the designer uses different illustration techniques to present the diverse styles of numerous countries and species. The concept of this work is simple, yet the techniques involved are highly skillful. This work adopts a new perspective and focus to look at the crisis of endangered and extinct animals, reminding human beings to treat the natural environment well. The gold prize winners of the digital animation category are Jia-Yu Guo, Nien-Chen Wu, Ling Po, Tzu-Yi Liao and Ki-Lung Lee from Chaoyang University of Technology. The theme of their entry, titled “A Mess,” is bullying. In this animation, hairstyle represents the mood and appearance of a person, and the story symbolizes the discrimination and unfair treatment in our society on account of one’s appearance. This work explores multiple social issues, and the technique and style of its storytelling are very innovative and highly appreciated by the jury panel. The gold prize winners of the service design category, Chien-Chih Hsu, Hou-Jun Chen and Hsuan-Tzu Shen, come from National Cheng Kung University, and their entry is titled “Game Creatures.” This is a service system for teachers to teach students how to design games, and it allows instructors and teachers to learn about design thinking and creativity through teaching game design. Hence, the acclaim of the gold prize of the service design category awarded to it.

The winners list has been released onto the official website of the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education (https://depart.moe.edu.tw/ed2200/) and the official website of 2018 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (www.tisdc.org). It is planned that on November 30, the award ceremony and the exhibition of the winning entries will take place in eslite Performance Hall inside Songshan Cultural and Creative Park (No.88, Yanchang Rd., Xinyi Dist., Taipei City 110, Taiwan (R.O.C.)). In order to enhance the visibility of these works and provide the public with more opportunities to appreciate the works, the exhibition of the winning entries will also be held in National Library of Public Information (No.100, Wuquan S. Rd., South Dist., Taichung City 402, Taiwan (R.O.C.)) in December 3 to December 17.

Organized by Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (Taiwan), and executed by Asia University, 2019 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) is in its 12th year now. On 20^th February (Wed.), the executive team invited professors and teachers in Taiwan to join 2019 TISDC’s advisory council meeting. The theme of 2019 TISDC is “Empathy” and four categories, Product Design, Visual Design, Digital Animation and Brand Specified, are included. TISDC aims to encourage students who are interested in design from both Taiwan and abroad to join the competition actively.

Prof. Apex Lin, the project director of TISDC, indicated that with students’ active participation in TISDC, design field in Taiwan could keep moving forward. 2018 TISDC attracted more than 20,000 entries from 66 countries/regions around the world, which indicated that Taiwan International Student Design Competition has become one of the most remarkable worldwide student design competitions. Regarding the New Southbound Policy of the Taiwan government, this year TISDC will continue encouraging not only students from Taiwan but also students from other countries, especial those in South Asia, to participate in the competition. The Brand Specified Category, sponsored by Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), is the newly established one of this year. In the advisory council meeting, the associate project director, Miira Lin, mentioned that ITRI will provide not only prize money but also opportunities for internship to several winners of this year in order to put participants’ creative ideas and designs into practice, which definitely will motivate more students to join the competition.  

TISDC really appreciated all the representatives’ attendance in the advisory council meeting. With their support, we hope TISDC could be widely promoted in schools around Taiwan and could encourage more professors, teachers, and students to participate in this year’s competition, creating a new milestone for 2019 TISDC.

On 11^th March, Thursday, the associate project director of TISDC, Prof. Shin-Fu Lee led the promotional campaign at the Department of Industrial Design of Ming Chi University of Technology. 50 teachers and students enthusiastically participated in the campaign.

Targeting on the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy,” Prof. Lee pointed out some detailed information about the competition. Special emphasis was also put on this year’s Brand Specified Category, sponsored by Industrial Technology Research Institute, which will provide students with the opportunities to cooperate with the industry.

During the campaign, Prof. Lee also congratulated the group of students from the Department of Industrial Design of Ming Chi University of Technology on their winning work, which was awarded Good Design Australia Special Award in last year’s competition. He encouraged students not to worry about whether their works are excellent enough or not. Just focus on sharpening their professional skills, broadening their horizons, increasing their ability to predict and perceive, and seizing every chance to accumulate their energy in design, to have exchanges with others and learn from others.

Special thanks were again given to Director Zun-Hwa Chiang of Ming Chi University of Technology for rounding off this promotional campaign with strong support and great arrangement.

The executive team of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) visited two universities in Malaysia on 12th March 2019 to promote this year’s competition. One is Jakarta Institute of Arts, and the other is Tarumanagara University. These two promotional campaigns attracted about 320 teachers and students to join us.

Targeting on the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy,” the associate project directors of TISDC, Prof. Melvyn Liao and Lecturer Miira Lin not only gave an introduction of the competition but also shared some of the winning works with the students. By doing strategic analysis of these excellent works that TISDC received in previous years, Prof. Liao and Lecturer Lin hoped the diverse cultural backgrounds of participants could broaden students’ horizons, lead them to think from different perspectives and evoke creative ideas. The difference is what causes the design to grow. Thus, Prof. Liao and Lecturer Lin encouraged students to accumulate their energy in design in their daily life, hoping this year more outstanding Indonesian students would join TISDC.

Special thanks to the two vice deans of Jakarta Institute of Arts, Mr. Yudi Amboroand and Mr. Adityayoga, and Tarumanagara University ‘s chairman of Department of Visual Communication Design, Mr. Edy Chandra, and secretary of Department of Visual Communication Design, Ms. Mariati, for helping TISDC organize the promotional campaigns. From 10^th to 14^th March 2019, the associate project directors of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), Prof. Melvyn Liao and Lecturer Miira Lin, led the executive team of the competition to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, to promote TISDC for the very first time. The five-day promotional campaign has rounded off. Around 650 students and teachers from design colleges and publics from Jakarta attended the promotional campaign.

With this opportunity to visit design schools in Indonesia, TISDC also held a one-week (11^th to 17^th March, 2019) roving exhibition of 2018 TISDC’s winning works at the famous complex space, Kopi Kalyan. Special thanks are given to Ms. Tri Anugrah, the associate of the Design Alliance Asia (tDA Asia) and also the lecturer of TISDC’s New Asia Design Workshop last year, and her studio partner, Ms. Rina Renville for assisting us organize the roving exhibition. TISDC hoped this young designer’s frequently-visited place could create more opportunities for design exchanges and let students in Indonesia accumulate more energy in design and learn from other international students’ excellent works. Many thanks also go to the professors and teachers of the design schools that the executive team visited this time in Indonesia for helping us spread the information of the roving exhibition, which resulted in many enthusiastic visitors to the exhibition.

On 20^th March, the associate project director of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), Prof. Jun-Hong Chen, led the campus promotional campaign at Kun Shan University. Around 120 teachers and students participated in the campaign. Glad to exchange with students in Kun Shan University, also to promote TISDC competition of this year. Prof. Chen mentioned that it’s TISDC’s great pleasure to have exchange with students at Kun Shan University and share the information about this year’s competition with them.

Special thanks were given to Dean of College of Creative Media at Kun Shan University, Prof. Shei-Hsi Chang and Director of Department of Visual Communication Design, Prof. Chih-Wei Huang, for giving us this gold opportunity to promote TISDC at Kun Shan University and helping us arrange this promotional campaign. Targeting on the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy,” Prof. Chen not only pointed out some detailed information about the competition but shared some of the winning works of last year’s competition in order to inspire the students to think in a more creative way and raise their willingness to join the competition. Prof. Chen also gave several examples of how to integrate this year’s theme, “Empathy,” with design in order to give students more directions to create their own works and encourage them to participate actively. TISDC is a platform that provides students with the chance to let the world see their excellent works and to broaden young designers’ horizons. This year, we expect to see more excellent works from Kun Shan University to participate in TISDC.

On 20^th March 2019, the project manager of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), Ms. Jenny Huang, led the campus promotional campaign of TISDC at National Nantou Senior High School with the project manager of Sprout Project of International Design Competition (IDC). Around 100 teachers and students participated in the campaign. It’s our great pleasure to have exchange with students at National Nantou Senior High School and share the information of this year’s competition with them.

Targeting on the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy,” Project manager Ms. Huang not only pointed out some detailed information about the competition but also shared some of the winning students’ experiences of participating in this competition. Special emphasis was also put on this year’s ITRI Innovation Award of Brand Specified Category, sponsored by Industrial Technology Research Institute, which will provide winning students of this category with both the rewards and the opportunities to cooperate with the best research and development team of the industry.

We also gave our great appreciation to Teacher Jia-Jyun Go of National Nantou Senior High School for helping us arrange this promotional campaign and lending her support to TISDC.

Thanks Thailand Creative and Design Center (TCDC) for introducing Taiwan International Student Design Competition to design schools in Thailand. With TCDC’s recommendation, TISDC gained the precious opportunities to have the promotional event, led by Prof. Apex Lin, the project director of TISDC, at Chulalongkorn University and Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, attracting around 50 teachers and students to join the promotional event and know more about the competition.

The project director of TISDC, Prof. Apex Lin Pang-Soong mentioned that “Empathy” is the theme of this year’s competition and it’s a concept rooted in affective commitment. “Empathy” plays an important role in the relationships between people and between human and the environment. “Empathy” forces people to face problems existing in our daily life and try to come out with ways to solve them. Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) gave special thanks to Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC), TISDC’s worldwide partner, for its assistance. Only with its help could TISDC hold the roving exhibition of students’ winning works in different cities of Thailand. “Design Week” is always an important platform for designers to brainstorm and interact with each other. Starting from having a roving exhibition in Chiang Mai Design Week 2018 (8^th to 16^th December, 2018) at the end of last year, TISDC has actively participated in this kind of international events to display students’ winning works, hoping to show the world not only young designers’ talent and energy in design but also the great emphasis Taiwan puts on design education.

In recent years, Thailand has been full of design energy. This year, the yearly Bangkok Design Week is held from 26^th January to 3^rd February, 2019. It’s TISDC’s great honor to be sincerely invited by Mr. Apisit Laistrooglai, the consultant of TCDC, to be part of the design week. In such a significant event, the project director of TISDC, Prof. Apex Lin Pang Soong, led the executive team to hold a roving exhibition of students’ winning works from 2008 to 2018, which greatly enhanced Taiwan’s international visibility.

From 2008, Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) is now in its twelfth year. TISDC gets lots of enthusiastic responses and the number of participating entries reaches a new record every year. TISDC is a remarkable competition in design education and has become one of the largest student design competitions in the world. TISDC Encourages international young student designers to show the world their creativity and design power.

The executive team of TISDC visited Multimedia Nusantara University and Binus Northumbria School of Design on 13th, March, 2019 to promote the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy,” and shared the winning works of previous years with the attendees. The two promotional campaigns attracted about 80 teachers and students to join us. The associate project director of TISDC, Lecturer Miira Lin, said that “Empathy” is a concept rooted in affective commitment. This kind of issue exists not only among people but also in relationships between humans and environment and between humans and animals. “Empathy” plays a vital role in forcing us to face problems and figure out solutions. Thus, students who would like to participate in the competition are encouraged to think from diverse perspectives and make good use of their creativity.

Around 400 participants, including teachers and students from Fuzhou University, Fujian University of Technology, Minjiang University, Yango University, etc., attended the promotional campaign.

On 27^th March, 2019, the project manager of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), Ms. Luby Chen, led the campus promotional campaign of TISDC at National Taichung University of Education (NTCU) with the project manager of the Sprout Project of Design- International Design Competition (IDC). Around 60 teachers and students participated in the campaign. Ms. Chen mentioned that it’s TISDC’s great pleasure to have this opportunity to share the information of this year’s competition with all the attendees and hope to see students of NTCU join this year’s competition actively.

In the promotional campaign, Ms. Chen not only targeted on the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy,” but also gave some examples of how to integrate the idea of empathy into design as well as shared some of the winning works from previous years’ competition with the attendees, hoping these excellent works that TISDC received before could inspire students and lead them to brainstorm and come out with their own works.

Most importantly, Ms. Chen, on behalf of the executive team of TISDC, gave her special thanks to Prof. Ming-Lan Kang of Department of Fine Art at NTCU for assisting TISDC to organize this promotional campaign, which had rounded off.

Prof. Chen also presented his appreciation to Prof. Shou-Che Wu, the chairman of the Department of Modern Living and Creative Design at Cheng Shiu University, for assisting TISDC to organize this promotional campaign.

At the beginning of the promotional campaign, Prof. Chen first shared some of the excellent works that TISDC received before with the attendees by playing the showreel of 2018 TISDC’s winning works. Through this video clip, we hope more people could see these brilliant works and get inspired by them. Then, Prof. Chen targeted on the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy.” He not only provided many good examples of how to integrate the idea of “Empathy” into design works but also encouraged students to observe, think and design from distinct perspectives. At the end of the promotional campaign, Prof. Chen played the edited video recording of 2018 TISDC’s award ceremony to show everyone what achievement TISDC and all the participated students had reached. At the same time, we look forward to seeing students from Cheng Shiu University stand on the stage to receive this year’s awards.

On March 28^th (Thu.) and 29^th (Fri.), the project director of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), Prof. Apex Lin, and the associate project director, Prof. Shin-Fu Lee, led the executive team to visit and promote TISDC in Tianjin area of China. About 200 teachers and students from Tianjin Normal University and Tianjin University of Science & Technology joined the promotional event.

The project director of TISDC, Prof. Apex Lin Pang-Soong mentioned that “Empathy” is the theme of this year’s competition and it’s a concept rooted in affective commitment. Therefore, for students who would like to participate in this year’s competition, they are encouraged to think and design from diversified perspectives. On 9^th April (Tue.), the associate project director of TISDC, Prof. Melvyn Liao was honored to go to Tunghai University to promote the competition. We gave our great appreciation to Prof. Li-Hui Lee for helping us arrange this promotional campaign. About 100 teachers and students from the Department of Industrial Design participated in the campaign. It’s our great pleasure to have exchange with students at Tunghai University and share the information of this year’s competition with them.

Targeting on the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy,” Prof. Melvyn Liao introduced the competition to the attendees and shared some of the winning works of last year’s competition with them. Prof. Liao not only encouraged the students to actively cultivate their design skills and try to view things from different perspectives but also gave several examples of how to integrate this year’s theme, “Empathy,” into design works. Special emphasis was also put on this year’s ITRI Innovation Award of Brand Specified Category, sponsored by Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). ITRI will provide winning students of this category with both the rewards and the opportunities to cooperate with the best research and development team of the industry. This year, we expect to see more excellent works from Tunghai University to participate in TISDC.

2019 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) has launched its promotional tour at many of the design schools and colleges in Taiwan. The theme of this year’s competition is “Empathy”!

The associate project director of TISDC, Prof. Jun-Hong Chen, visited Ming Chuan University to promote the competition on April 10^th. Around 120 teachers and students joined the session. Prof. Chen was delighted to communicate with the students face to face about design in our daily life and introduce TISDC to the attendees.

It’s our pleasure to have exchange with students at Hsing Wu University and share the information about this year’s competition with them.

Special thanks were given to Prof. Shang-Hua Wu, Dean of Design College, Prof. Shan-Yi Jau of Department of Digital Design, and Prof. Bo-Kai Kang and Prof. Yung-Tzuen Wong of Department of Commercial Design for attending and supporting this promotional campaign. A Look into 2019 Taiwan International Student Design Competition’s Promotional Campaign – New Era University College & INTI Center of Art and Design, April 10^th

On the third day of Taiwan International Student Design Competition’s (TISDC’s) promotional trip to Malaysia, the associate project directors, Prof. Ming-Lung Yu, Prof. Shi-Fu Lee and Lecturer Miira Lin, led the executive team to visit and promote TISDC at New Era University College and INTI Center of Art and Design on 10^th April. Around 190 teachers and students joined the promotional events together.

The theme of 2019 TISDC, “Empathy,” is a concept rooted in affective commitment. Prof. Yu not only reminded the students to view things from diverse perspectives and make good use of creative thinking when designing but also shared some of the winning works that TISDC received before with the attendees, hoping to spark their creativity.

Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), a remarkable international competition in Taiwan design education, is in its twelfth year. Led by the associate project directors of TISDC, Prof. Ming-Lung Yu, Prof. Shi-Fu Lee and Lecturer Miira Lin, the executive team of TISDC visited Malaysia on 9^th April and promoted TISDC at Raffles College of Higher Education Kuala Lumpur and First City University College. In total, around 130 teachers and students joined the promotional events together.

Targeting on the theme, “Empathy,” of this year’s competition, the associate project director of TISDC, Lecturer Miira Lin, not only introduced the history of TISDC to the attendees but also shared some of the winning works with everyone, hoping to inspire the students who are interested in joining the competition and creating some sparkles in diverse cultures and design. Prof. Lee and Prof. Yu encouraged students to accumulate their design energy, view things and difficulties from distinct perspectives, and try their best to stand in others’ shoes when solving problems and doing design.

The associate project director of TISDC, Lecturer Miira Lin, revealed that “Empathy” is the theme of this year’s competition and it’s a concept rooted in affective commitment. Thus, Lecturer Lin encouraged students to observe and think from different perspectives and most importantly try to stand in others’ shoes when facing and solving problems. These are also what designers should do when they do their design works. During the promotional event, Lecturer Lin, shared some of the winning works that TISDC received before with the attendees as well. Prof. Lee and Prof. Yu also encouraged students to actively participate in international design competitions, which is a good way to sharpen young designers’ design skills and broaden their horizons.

On 15^th April, 2019, the project manager of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), Ms. Huang, led the promotional campaign of TISDC at the Department of Architecture of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) with the project manager of the Sprout Project of Design-International Design Competition (IDC). Around 70 faculty and students participated in the campaign. Project manager Ms. Huang not only pointed out some detailed information about this year’s competition but also shared what TISDC has done so far with the attendees. She encouraged students to participate in the competition and compete for high prize money actively as well as motivated them to accumulate their design energy by participating in design competitions.

Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) is in its twelfth year and the theme of this year’s competition is “Empathy.” On 17^th April, the associate project director of TISDC, Prof. Ming-Lung Yu, led the executive team to promote the competition at Shilin High School of Commerce. Around 250 faculty and students joined the event together.

During the event, Prof. Yu focused not only on how to integrate the concept of “Empathy” into design works of different participating categories but also on analyzing the winning works of last year, hoping to encourage students’ creativity and innovation as well as broaden their horizons. Prof. Yu also reminded the students about the importance of enhancing their design skills, viewing things from different perspectives, and seizing every opportunity to participate in design competitions. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to fail.

Special thanks to Teacher Kuo-Wen Chung, head of the Department of Advertisement Design at Shilin High School of Commerce, for helping TISDC’s executive team arrange for the promotional event. Prof. Ming-Lung Yu presented the certificate of appreciation to Head Kuo-Wen Chung for his assistance and support.

Organized by Taiwan Ministry of Education and executed by Asia University, Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) held an advisory council meeting on Sunday, 21th April, 2019. Doctoral students studying in Taiwan who are also teachers in China were widely invited to join the event together to know more about the competition. The executives of TISDC hoped these teachers could bring the information of TISDC back to the schools they teach to encourage their students to participate in it actively.

TISDC is now in its twelfth year. Four categories, Product Design, Visual Design, Digital Animation, and Brand Specified, are included in the competition. This year, for the very first time, Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) collaborated with TISDC and sponsored the Brand Specified Category. ITRI is responsible for providing existing industrial techniques to participants to apply these techniques into their design works and come out with products with high additional value. This way would give young designers a stage to show their creativity to the world.

This advisory council meeting provided an opportunity for the doctoral students from China and studying in Taiwan to gather together. Around 50 of them from 30 schools of China participated in the event. Teacher Zhou Lin, a doctoral student of National Taiwan Normal University, mentioned that the design research methods of China are quite different from those of Taiwan. Through this promotional event, TISDC provided a precious opportunity for design education change between Taiwan and China.

Prof. Apex Lin, project director of TISDC, indicated that through years of endeavor, the international visibility of TISDC has significantly enhanced. In 2018, TISDC received more than 20,000 entries from 895 schools and departments in 66 countries/regions. Starting from 2017, in order to implement the New Southbound Policy of Taiwan Ministry of Education, TISDC executive started to establish a real exchange platform with the New Southbound Policy countries to maintain the execution power and expandability of the competition and to encourage students from those New Southbound Policy countries to participate in the competition actively. The steady increase in the participating countries/regions shows that the competition has reached an internationally recognized level and surpassed other similar student competitions. Thus, one can say that TISDC is the most influential student competition of scale.

Once again, the executive team of TISDC would like to express their appreciation to those who participated in the advisory council meeting with their precious suggestions. Through this promotional campaign, TISDC hoped to attract more teachers and students to participate in the competition and reach the next milestone together.

The purpose of the event is to encourage design students to actively participate in the competition and pursue for the awards. The theme of 2019 TISDC is “Empathy,” a concept that is strongly related to our daily life and could be easily expressed by design works. Therefore, we hope students could seize this opportunity to show the world their excellent works. We believe that design students could enhance their creative thinking and cultivate their design skills by participating in international design competitions. 2019 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) has launched its promotional tour at many of the design schools and colleges in Taiwan. The theme of this year’s competition is “Empathy”!

On 22^nd April, the associate project director of TISDC, Prof. Melvyn Liao, led the executive team to promote this year’s competition at National Taiwan University of Arts. We really appreciated the assistance and support Prof. Wei-Chung Chang, chairman of Department of Multimedia and Animation Arts, gave to TISDC. Around 30 teachers and students participated in the campaign together. It’s our great pleasure to have exchange with students at National Taiwan University of Arts and share the information of this year’s competition with them.

Targeting on the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy,” Prof. Liao introduced the regulations of the competition and shared some of the winning works of last year with the attendees, hoping to enhance students’ creative thinking and encourage them to participate in the competition actively. This year, we expect to see more excellent works from National Taiwan University of Arts to participate in TISDC.

On 26^th April 2019, the project manager of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), Ms. Lu, visited Fu-Hsin Trade and Arts School and held an event to promote this year’s competition there. Around 150 teachers and students participated in the campaign. It’s TISDC’s great pleasure to have the opportunity to have exchange with students of Fu-Hsin Trade and Arts School and share the information of this year’s competition with them.

Targeting on the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy,” Ms.  Lu not only pointed out some detailed information about the competition but also shared some of the winning students’ experiences of participating in this competition. Special emphasis was also put on this year’s ITRI Innovation Award of Brand Specified Category, sponsored by Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). ITRI will provide winning students of this category with both the rewards and the chances to learn from and collaborate with the best research and development team in the industry, which undoubtedly is a unique opportunity that students should seize.

Our sincere appreciation was presented to Teacher Hsiao-Tsung Chen, director of Department of Arts and Crafts, and Teacher Kun-Yen Hsieh of Fu-Hsin Trade and Arts School for helping us arrange this promotional event and lending their support to TISDC.

The online registration and submission of the largest student design competition in the world, “2019 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC)” starts today!

Four categories are included: Product Design, Visual Design, Digital Animation, and Brand Specified Categories (sponsored by Industrial Technology Research Institute).

TISDC is organized by the Ministry of Education (Taiwan), executed by Asia University, and sponsored by iSee Taiwan Foundation, Sayling Wen Cultural & Educational Foundation, and Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) this year. This is the very first time that ITRI collaborates with TISDC and sponsors the Brand Specified Category. Participants of this category are given the existing techniques provided by ITRI, and should integrate the ideas of these techniques into their design works, which will be a great opportunity for participants to go deeper into the industry, turn their design ideas into really products as well as show the world their creativity and design power at the same time.

2019 Taiwan International Student Design Competition has started its promotional tour and promote this year’s competition at many high schools and universities in Taiwan. On 30^th April, the associate project director of TISDC, Prof. Jun-Hong Chen, was invited by the Department of Visual Communication Design of TransWorld University, to introduce 2019 TISDC. Around 40 faculty and students attended the event. Special thanks were presented to Prof. Yu-Yu Liu, for helping us arrange the event and being so supportive. Prof. Chen not only introduced the rules of the competition but also shared some ideas of how to integrate the concept of empathy into design works. The students were encouraged to cultivate their design skills, and try their best to observe and think from different perspectives, which definitely will make their designs more diverse and unique. We look forward to all the good design works from TransWorld University to participate in this year’s competition.

The associate project director of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), Prof. Shin-Fu Lee, was invited to promote this year’s competition at National Taichung University of Science and Technology on 2^nd May. Prof. Lee was delighted to talk face-to-face with design students of the university and shared with them the information of TISDC.

The promotional campaign was a success owing to the assistance and hospitality of the associate professors, Ms. Yu-Yan Zhan and Ms. Chun-Chun Hou. Around 40 teachers and students participated in the session. Targeting on the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy,” Prof. Lee gave a thorough introduction on how to participate in the competition and shared some of the winning entries with the attendees, hoping to motivate students to think in a more creative way and try their best to observe things from different perspectives. Prof. Lee also reminded the students about the importance of accumulating their energy in design and participating in design competitions actively. TISDC looks forward to all the works from National Taichung University of Science and Technology!

The project manager of TISDC, Ms. Chen, visited National Formosa University to promote the competition on May 8^th. Around 80 teachers and students joined the session. Thanks National Formosa University for giving TISDC the opportunity to communicate with the students and introduce the competition to them.

Targeting on the theme of this year’s competition, “Empathy,” Ms. Chen pointed out some detailed information about the competition and shared some of the winning works of last year’s competition in order to inspire the students to think in a more creative way and raise their willingness to join the competition.

Today’s promotional event was a success. Special thanks were given to Prof. Wen-Hao Chu of Department of Multimedia Design for helping TISDC organize the promotional campaign. We also look forward to seeing students from National Formosa University stand on the stage to receive this year’s awards at the award ceremony!

On 15^th May 2019, the project manager of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), Ms. Jenny Huang, led the promotional campaign of TISDC at Fu Jen Catholic University with the project manager of Sprout Project, International Design Competition (IDC). Around 50 teachers and students participated in the campaign. It’s our great pleasure to have exchange with students of Department of Applied Arts, Fu Jen Catholic University and share the information of this year’s competition with them.

Organized by the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education (Taiwan), executed by the Department of Visual Communication Design of Asia University, and sponsored by iSee Taiwan Foundation, Sayling Wen Cultural and Educational Foundation, and Industrial Technology Research Institute, 2019 Taiwan International Student Design Competition held the 3rd New Asia Design Workshop at Asia University on 18^th and 19^th May, 2019. Three prestigious international designers from New Southbound Policy area, including Mr. Nachiket Thakur from India, Mr. Junyao Lin from Singapore, and Ms. Agatha Maisie Tjandra from Indonesia, were invited to be the lecturers in the Workshop.

The New Asia Design Workshop targeted at the theme, “Empathy,” of 2019 Taiwan International Student Design Competition. The international lecturers led the students to think, observe and experience what empathy is in our daily life and taught them how to use different techniques to do their designs. To break the language barrier between lecturers and students, each lecturer was accompanied by an interpreter so that students could understand what the lecturers wanted to express immediately and correctly and thus get more involved in the Workshop. The Workshop not only boosted international exchange but also provided students who have interest in design with an opportunity to learn from international design experts face to face. Around 90 students from 30 high schools and universities in Taiwan attended the Workshop.

After the two-day Workshop, the students got inspired, came out with new thoughts, and generated new design energy from the design experiences that the lecturers shared with them. Some students also mentioned that it was such a pity that the Workshop only lasted for two days and hoped they could have more time to learn from the lecturers. At the same time, the lecturers were deeply touched by the students’ intense devotion to the Workshop and impressed by the works the students came out in such a short period of time. All the attendees looked forward to more opportunities to learn and to have exchanges in the future.

Established in 1981, the Young Designers’ Exhibition has become one of the most important joint exhibitions for design students in Taiwan to show their creativity. It is also a grand event that brings together the design students of Taiwan on an annual basis. Every year, over 4,000 entries and 9,000 young designers from 140 departments of over 60 schools participate in the exhibition. Each work shows the exuberant ideas and energy of the young designers to.

This year is the 38^th Young Designers’ Exhibition. Since both Young Designers’ Exhibition and Taiwan International Student Design Competition aim at exploring young designers’ talent and works and providing them with an international stage to show the world their designs, TISDC seized this precious opportunity to promote this year’s competition right at the exhibition on May 5th. TISDC also took the chance to visit the young designers from different schools and their works at the exhibition. Through this visit, TISDC hoped to attract more students to join the competition and see them on the stage of 2019 TISDC’s award ceremony.

On 24^th May 2019, the project manager of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), Ms. Luby Chen, led a promotional campaign at Tainan University of Technology with the project manager of Sprout Project-International Design Competition (IDC). Around 55 teachers and students participated in the campaign. It’s TISDC’s great pleasure to have the opportunity to have exchange with students of College of Design and share the information of this year’s competition with them. In 2015, XX Wu’s submission “Power” was selected by the visual design category of Taiwan International Student Design Competition. The work was reported in October, 2018 and found to be highly similar to the design entrusted to Taiwan’s Chulu Art x Design by 101 Tea in 2014. The executive team of TISDC reviewed the similarity of the two posters and the timing of both design, ruled to cancel the qualification of Wu’s submission as herein stated.

Organized by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (Taiwan), sponsored by iSee Taiwan Foundation, Sayling Wen Cultural & Educational Foundation, and Industrial Technology Research Institute, and executed by the Department of Visual Communication Design, Asia University, 2019 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) received 21,988 entries from 810 school departments/institutes of 66 countries/regions around the world.

The world’s largest-scale international student design competition, TISDC, collaborated with 22 international design associations this year, including World Design Organization (WDO), International Council of Design (ico-D), The Bureau of European Design Associations (BEDA), International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media (Cumulus), New York Art Directors Club Annual Awards (ADC), The Design Alliance Asia (tDA Asia), Association for the Industrial Design (ADI), Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP), Korea Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP), German Design Council (GDC), India Design Council (IDC), Good Design Australia (GDA), Design Business Chamber Singapore (DBCS), Hong Kong Federation of Design Associations (FHKDA), Macau Designers Association (MDA), Taiwan Design Alliance (TdA), Creative Economy Agency (CEA), Moscow Global Biennale of Graphic Design Golden Bee (Golden Bee), Lahti International Poster Triennial (Lahti), International Poster Biennial in Mexico (IPBM), The Designers Institute of New Zealand (DINZ), and Brazil Design Center (CBD). All the 22 international design associations agrees not only to endorse a special prize for this year’s competition in their names but also to delegate representatives to serve as jurors for the competition as well as to participate in the design workshop, industry forum, award ceremony, etc in order to provide a collaborative platform for the development of creative design of the youth.

This year, TISDC still has two preliminary selections as it did last year. One is held in Singapore; the other, in Taiwan. Design Business Chamber Singapore (DBCS) again gave TISDC great support, co-organizing the Preliminary Selection in Singapore with TISDC. The Preliminary Selection in Singapore was rounded off on 24th August at PIXEL Labs. TISDC and DBCS co-collected the participating entries from Australia and New Zealand, and 11 countries/regions of Southeast Asia and South Asia and invited 15 professional designers from Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, and Thailand to form the panel of jurors for the Preliminary Selection in Singapore. After strict screening, 69 entries from The New Southbound Policy countries entered the final selection. These works will enter the final selection with the selected works from the Preliminary Selection in Taiwan, which is going to be held next week, to compete for 2019 TISDC’s awards in late October.

On the first day of the Preliminary Selection in Singapore, Mr. Steven Tai, Deputy Representative of The Taipei Representative Office in Singapore and Ms. Chi Yuan Tsai, Director of Information Division, Taipei Representative Office in Singapore gave a welcome remark to all the jurors, expressing their gratitude to all the professional designers for serving as jurors for TISDC. Mr. Tai and Ms Tsai also showed their recognition to TISDC for the achievements the Competition had made.

Following the Preliminary Selection in Singapore, 2019 TISDC will be holding the Preliminary Selection in Taiwan from August 31^st to September 2^nd at Taipei New Horizon. 24 jurors will form the panel of jurors, consisting of 14 design experts from abroad and 10 from Taiwan. 6 of the Taiwanese jurors will be the conveners. The jurors will demonstrate the credibility and diversity of 2019 TISDC. Organized by Ministry of Education (Taiwan), sponsored by iSee Taiwan Foundation, Sayling Wen Cultural & Educational Foundation, and Industrial Technology Research Institute, and executed by Asia University, Taiwan International Student Design Competition is now in its twelfth year. The theme of this year’s competition is “Empathy.” This year, the Competition attracted 21,988 entries from 810 schools and departments in 66 countries/regions around 5 continents, which had an all time high record of submissions received.

The Preliminary Selection in Taiwan of 2019 TISDC took place on August 31^st and September 1^st at Taiwan New Horizon. 24 experts in design from Taiwan, Macau, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, India, and Korea were invited to form the panels of jurors for Product Design Category, Visual Design Category and Digital Animation Category. Owing to the great amount of entries the Competition received, it took the jurors two days to finish screening all the entries. After rounds of strict and enthusiastic screening and discussion, 523 entries were eventually on the shortlist, which included works from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, Korea, the USA, Canada, Turkey, Iran, United Kingdom, Poland, Finland, Sweden, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Netherlands, and Russia. These finalists will pursue the Grand Prix, which is worth NT$400,000, and the other awards in each category in the Final Selection.

Regarding the entries that became the finalists, the conveners of the three categories, including Mr. Lance Han for Product Design Category, Mr. Chia-Chang Yang for Visual Design Category, and Mr. Muh Chen for Digital Animation Category, all agreed that“Empathy,”the theme of this year’s competition, is a concept rooted in affective commitment. Thus, they saw many participants demonstrate the relationship among people and the relationship between human and the environment in their selected works. This indicated that young participants did pay attention to this international social issue and tried to express their thoughts and find a way to solve problems in their entries, which impressed the jurors a lot.

The shortlist will be announced and posted on the official website of 2019 TISDC this week. Following the Preliminary Selection in Taiwan, 2019 TISDC is going to hold the Final Selection on October 24^th at the Multi-Showcase Exhibition Hall of Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. 10 domestic designers and 26 international ones will form the panels of jurors to demonstrate the diversity and credibility of TISDC and come out with the winners of this year’s competition. On October 25^th, TISDC will hold an International Design Masters Lecture Series, inviting international design masters to give a talk and share their design experiences with the audience. A. Mail printout(s) — (Finalists of Digital Animation Category do NOT need to mail printout.)

Please mail at most 3 printouts of your entry on A2 size (Portrait Format: L59.4cm×W42cm or Landscape Format: L42cm×W59.4cm). The printout(s) should NOT be mounted on cardboards/paperboards. The content of the printout(s) should be the same as the content of the electronic files you uploaded for 1st stage of work submission.

2019 Taiwan International Student Design Competition

Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC), the largest-scale student design competition worldwide, is organized and promoted by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education (Taiwan). This year, TISDC is sponsored by iSee Taiwan Foundation, Sayling Wen Cultural & Educational Foundation, and Industrial Technology Research Institute and executed by the Department of Visual Communication Design, Asia University. TISDC is now in its twelfth year. The theme of this year’s competition is “Empathy.” This year, TISDC received 21,988 entries from 819 schools/departments in 66 countries/regions. The number of participating entries again reaches a record high.

The Final Selection of 2019 TISDC was held on October 24 at the multi-showcase exhibition hall of Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei. During the international jurors’ visits in Taiwan, the organizer of 2019 TISDC held the “International Design Master Lecture Series” at Taipei New Horizon in Taipei and at National Library of Public Information in Taichung on October 25. The lectures successfully attracted a lot of interest from students and teachers in design. Thanks to the 7 design experts, the audience learned a lot from their observation and experiences in design. Their unique perspectives also facilitate design exchange. Every session was remarkable and insightful, and the audience responded with enthusiasm, taking the opportunities to interact with the international masters.

The International Design Masters Lecture Series in Taichung was held at the National Library of Public Information on October 25, which attracted more than 280 attendees. The director of National Library of Public Information, Mr. Zhong-Cheng Liu, also attended the lecture series to support this event. This session, Taiwan International Studnet Design Competition invited president-elect of International Council of Design (ico-D), Mr. Johnathon Strebly from Canada, art director and designer of FLAME inc., Designer Masayoshi Kodaira from Japan, and director of Macau Designers Association (MDA), Designer Sio-Leong Chao from Macau, to be the speakers.

Mr. Johnathon Strebly focused his speech on how globalization influences design and on what designers should equip themselves with in the era of globalization. Designer Masayoshi Kodaira directly showed his posters in his lecture and shared how he came out with all the posters in a humorous way. Designer Sio-Leong Chao shared how he integreated Macau’s traditions, characteristics, and snacks into his design products to introduce and promote Macau.  

Thanks again for everyone’s active participation, which made the Internatioanl Design Masters Lecture Series round off successfully. On December 6th, TISDC is going to hold this year’s award ceremony at the eslite Performance Hall in the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. We welcome everyone’s attendance. See you in December.

The International Design Masters Lecture Series held by Taiwan International Student Design Comeptition was rounded off on October 25. The lecture series took place at 11 different places, including Taipei New Horizon, National Library of Public Information, and 9 design high schools and universities in Nothern, Central, and Southern Taiwan.

As for the International Design Masters Lecture Series in Taipei, TISDC invited design masters from Japan, Denmark, Australia, and Germany to be the speakers, including Mr. Kimitaka Kato, executive director & CDO of Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP), Designer Thomas Bef Flygenring, designer of The LEGO Group, Denmark, Prof. Troy Innocent, founder and director of Urban Play Lab, and Mr. Jenz Großhans, co-founder of Design Studio-Großhans Und Arsad.

The central theme of this year’s International Design Masters Lecture Series is “Empathy,” which is also the theme of this year’s TISDC. Designer Thomas Bef Flygenring shared his experiences in being the designer at Design without Borders Uganda. When he was in Uganda, he not only discovered the needs of people there but also designed tools that could improve their daily lives. Prof. Troy Innocent led the audience to explore his city by integrating design with technology and self-learning, hoping that people could pay more attention to the places they are living. Mr. Kimitaka Kato is an experienced judge in many international design competitions. During his lecture, he shared the winning works of this year’s Good Design Award (Japan), which also strongly related to the issue of “Empathy.” By sharing their experiences in design, the speakers inspired the audience to think more about how designs influence people than to just focus on the designs themselves. In the Q&A session, the audience also seized the great opportunity to learn from the speakers and have design exchange.

Q&A Session of the Lecture Series

The International Design Masters Lecture Series in Northern, Central and Southern Taiwan were held at 9 campuses on October 25, which attracted more than 1,080 attendees. The 9 campuses include Hsing Wu University, Shilin High School, Fu-Hsin Trade & Arts School, Taibei High School, Tunghai University, Ling Tung University, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Tungfang Design University, and Cheng Shiu University. 17 lecturers from the International Design Associations that Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) is collaborating with and 1 designer from Thailand gave a lecture in these schools.  Thanks to the directors and teachers of these school for co-executing the lecture series with TISDC.The representatives from iSee Taiwan Foundation and Saylin Wen Cultural & Educational Foundation also attended the lecture series to support this event.
