Organized by the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education (Taiwan), executed by the Department of Visual Communication Design of Asia University, and sponsored by the iSee Taiwan Foundation, Sayling Wen Cultural and Educational Foundation, and TPCA Environment Foundation (Special Award Sponsor), 2022 Taiwan International Student Design Competition held the 6th New Asia Design Workshop online on the 28th and 29th of May, 2022. Three prestigious international designers including Mr. Ben Schwarz from Germany, Mr. Youl Cho from South Korea, and Mr. Chris Armsden from the UK were invited to be the instructors of the workshop.

This year’s workshop not only takes the theme of 2022TISDC: “One World”, but also extends the 17 SDGs sustainable development goals. The three international designers used their design experiences to lead the students create and imagine design works to connect with the goal of sustainable development. They not only provided suggestions and the concepts in the field of professional design, but also guided the students to deal with difficulties and overcome with bottlenecks. Lecturers encouraged all the students to change the logic of thinking, so that the design creativity can be improved and growth!

This year, due to the coronavirus outbreak is continuing to grow, the TISDC team conducted the workshop through online for the health of the students and lecturers, so that more students who want to participate in the workshop have the opportunity to participate, and it has overcome the need for students to traffic problems in previous years. It not only promotes international exchanges, but also allows many design-loving students to interact with international designers, and it also follows the trend of technology and uses online platforms and cooperation models.

In order to break language barriers, each lecturer was accompanied by an interpreter so that students could understand what the lecturers wanted to express, thus being more involved in the workshop. An estimate of 72 students from 35 different universities and departments in Taiwan participated in the workshop.

In the two-day workshop, the three lecturers shared their own experiences and taught new design thinking, which caused the students with endless inspiration. The lecturers also gave feedback on the excellent reports of the students’ presentation and it also proving the extraordinary strength of Taiwanese students. The event is only two days in the design career of the students, and we believe that all of the students will have a great future. Although the workshop only lasted for two days, many students gave us the feedback that they benefited lot by the workshop. Students are grateful for the opportunity that provided by TISDC and also hope to participate in the workshop again next year.
