Traditional Taiwanese glove puppetry is gradually losing relevance among younger generations, often viewed as outdated and left with few opportunities for engagement. Despite its rich cultural narrative, it struggles to resonate in today’s media landscape.

This project” A marvelous encounter in the palm” reinterprets the origin legend of glove puppetry, focusing on Liang Menlin, a failed examination candidate from the Ming dynasty. Through a blend of stop-motion puppetry, 2D animation, and hand-drawn animation, we transform glove puppetry into a visually symbolic language that contemporary audiences can appreciate and understand.

By enhancing accessibility and appeal, we aim to create an emotional and cultural connection, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own values and life directions. Ultimately, this work seeks to revive interest in glove puppetry, presenting it in a modern context while honoring its traditional roots.
