HEXA-S is a smart textile sleeve with embroidered stretch sensors that track residual limb shape changes throughout the day. It sends data to a computer to generate a changing 3D model that helps prosthetists achieve more accurate and adaptive socket fitting. Instead of focusing only on the socket, it considers the changing relationship between the
residual limb, the prosthetist, and the prosthesis over time. Its novelty lies in combining smart textile construction with sensing and digital tools to record how the limb changes shape throughout the day. This allows for four-dimensional data collection and analysis, where 3D changes can be understood over time rather than through a single static scan. By revealing fluctuation patterns and likely discomfort areas, HEXA-S offers a more informed and responsive basis for prosthetic fitting, supports greater consistency in socket design, and may help extend the useful life of a socket before major refitting is needed.
