Island Resilience Core reimagines an isolated rural island as a self-sustaining community. The project transforms an avoided nuclear facility into civic infrastructure that supports energy, water, food, housing, care, and public life. Beneath the sea, the nuclear core produces stable energy and connects to desalination and environmental systems. Above ground, the building follows the island’s terrain and becomes a shared platform for gathering, working, learning, and resting.
By linking infrastructure with everyday life, the project creates a circular support system where energy, water, food, and community continuously support one another. Through this reversal, the island moves beyond dependence on external supply networks and becomes a resilient model of self-sufficiency. Island Resilience Core presents sustainability as both a technical solution and a social recovery of island life.
