SoleSync helps patients recovering from knee or hip replacement follow their prescribed partial weight-bearing (PWB) limit — a percentage of body weight set by the doctor. A piezoresistive textile sensor layer in the sole measures applied force in real time. A microcontroller, calibrated via the SoleSync app, compares this against the safe threshold. The heel and forefoot cushioning contains magnetorheological (MR) fluid — iron particles suspended in liquid that flow freely under normal load. The instant force exceeds the limit, a small electromagnet aligns the particles into rigid chains within milliseconds, stiffening the fluid. This is felt through the foot and leg as kinesthetic feedback, needing no sound, light, or screen. Pressure dropping back releases the field, restoring normal cushioning. The app lets doctors set and adjust PWB limits remotely, while logging steps and overload frequency so clinicians can track real-world adherence.
