Sound Diagnosis is an affective information design project on the night soundscape of an overlooked campus waste-storage area, asking how invisible, unpreservable sound can become an information system to be read, compared and imagined.
Through Drift, guided by where sounds arose, 169 sounds were collected; through Layering, each was parsed into source, acoustic character, level, duration and impression, then coded by letters, typefaces and numbers into a searchable archive of sound list, cross-reference and sound map.
The visceral/behavioural/reflective structure unfolds in two blue-and-white media: a 135×265 mm book narrating the research page by page, and three 700×1000 mm posters juxtaposing all sound data as information graphics.
Treating the gaps among sound, text and image as thresholds for imagination, the work turns this residual space into an open field to be diagnosed, read and entered anew.
