On March 30th, the executive team of Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) went to Tatung University for the 8th domestic promotional campaign. The associate project director of TISDC, Prof. Shin-Fu Lee, introduced this year’s competition to the students and professors in detail. Around 120 attendees joined this event. It’s a very good chance for teachers and students to have design exchange. Thanks Tatung University for the arrangement.

The theme of 2020TISDC is “Action,” aiming to encourage students to take action right away to make good use of design to deal with the potential problems that people around the world are facing while turning the Earth into a more sustainable place for peole to live. The United Nations in 2015 proposed 17 Sustainable Development Goals (the SDGs), hoping global citizens could take these 17 issues seriously and take action to solve these urgent problems immediately. Accordingly, 2020TISDC takes this chance to remind design students to look into thes issues and see how they could use design to make the world a better place.

The special prize sponsor of 2020TISDC, TPCA Environment Foundation (TPCF), also cares a lot about the issue of building a sustainable environment. Thus, TPCF establishes the Brand Specified Special Prize: Environmental Sustainability Award in 2020TISDC. Thejury panel will select works “with significance for environmental sustainability”among the shortlisted entries in the Product Design category to win this award. The winner of this prize could win NTD100,000. Hope students could seize this golden opportunity and participate in this year’s compeition actively.

In the end, TISDC’s executive team would like to express its special thanks to Prof. Wen-Yuan Lee, head of Department of Media Design, Prof. Nikii Wang, Prof. Chia-Hua Lin, and Prof. Ching-Chih Liao from Department of Commercial Design, Ming Chuan University for their great support for 2020TISDC.

Thanks to the invitation from Section Chief Chieh Liu and Teacher Meng-Ying Li of Department of Advertisement Design & Department of Multimedia Design, 2020 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (2020TISDC) to promote this year’s competition at Chiao Tai High School. On April 13th and 14th, associate project director of 2020TISDC, Prof. Hsiao-Wei Fang, shared what TISDC has been promoting in the past decade, his experiences in guiding students to participate in design competition with students, and winning entries of recent years with students. Around 185 attendees joined this promotional campaign together actively. Since most of the design students of senior high schools in Taiwan do not have or only have few experiences in participating in international design competitions, Prof. Fang hoped students could take 2020TISDC as a great opportunity to show people their potentiality.

The theme of 2020TISDC is “Action.” Just like what Prof. Fang encouraged the students to do, 2020TISDC hopes that design students could get ready and take immediate action to make good use of their design skills and design thinking to help the world. “Action” is also related to the Sustainable Development Goals (the SDGs) proposed by the United Nations in 2015. The United Nations remind global citizens to pay attention to these 17 issues that we people are facing during the procedure of making the Earth a more sustainble place to live. Thus, TISDC also encourages design students to look into these issues and see how they could use design to solve these problems.

TISDC also would like to express its special thanks to Teacher Chi-Lin Wu, Teacher Ching-Ting Chao, Teacher Yen-Tzu Yu, and Teacher Ming-Yu Chen of Department of Advertisement Design & Department of Multimedia Design for encouraging students to participate in this promotional campaign!

On May 7th, the executive team of 2020 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (2020TISDC) visited National Formosa University in Yunlin for the promotional campaign. 2020TISDC’s associate project director, Prof. Ming-Lung Yu, led the executive team to have design exchanges with the students from the Department of Multimedia Design and introduced the theme and competition regulations of 2020TISDC to all the attendees.

The theme of 2020TISDC is “Action.” The idea of choosing “Action” as this year’s theme comes from the Sustainable Development Goals (the SDGs) proposed by the United Nations in 2015. Even though the Earth is nurturing all the lives, it is getting less sustainable after going through these years. To have a sustainable living environment, there are many issues that we people should pay attention to immediately and take prompt action to deal with these problems. Thus, 2020TISDC hopes that through this year’s competition, student designers could take advantage of their design thinking and design skills to see how to make the Earthe a better place to live.

In addition to the awards that have been established in the past years, 2020TISDC has a newly founded award called, “Brand Specified Special Prize: Environmental Sustainability Award.” This award is sponsored by TPCA Environment Foundation, which will elect works “with significance for environmental sustainability” among the shortlisted entries in the Product Design category to win this award. Hope students could take this golden opportunity to show the world their creative and innovative designs.

In the end, thanks to the great support of Prof. Wen-Hau Ju, which made the promotional campaign go smoothly. TISDC looks forward to the participation of National Formosa University’s students.

Three weeks have passed since the online registration and work submissions of 2020 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (2020TISDC) started. This year, design students have two and half months to register. In order to let more students know about this year’s competition, the executive team of 2020TISDC has visited many design schools, holding promotional campaigns. On May 18th, the project manager of TISDC, Ms. Yi-Shan Lin, visited the design students of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Thanks to the invitation of Prof. Yan-Ting Chen of Department of Architecture, 2020TISDC could have the chance to have design exchange with the students. In the past few years, students of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology’s Department of Architecture have participated in TISDC actively and won many prizes. Ms. Lin also took this opportunity to share these execellent works with the attendees, aiming to inspire and encourage the students to show the world their designs. Most importantly, TISDC would like to thank Prof. Yan-Ting Chen for the insturctions and encouragments he gave to the students, which definitely helped build students’ confidence greatly.

The theme of 2020TISDC is “Action,” with the purpose of raising young designers’ attention to the environment they are living, facing the problems that have lasted for a long time, thinking what they could do to solve the problems with their design thinking and design skills, and most importantly, take immediate action to put thoughts into practice. Through this year’s competition, TISDC hopes that the world could become a better place for people to live sustainably step by step.

Thanks to everyone’s participation in today’s promotional event, which ended quite well. TISDC once again looks forward to the active participation of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology’s Department of Architecture.

On May 22nd, the executive team of 2020 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (2020TISDC) visited Tunghai University to promote this year’s competition. Thanks to the invitation from the Department of Industrial Design, 2020TISDC could have the opportunity to share this year’s competition theme and winning works of last year with the students.

In the promotional campaign, Ms. Meng-Chih Lin, associate project director of 2020TISDC, not only explained how to better integrate this year’s competition theme, “Action,” into one’s design but also shared some tips of making designs more complete and mature. TISDC provides a platform to young talents around the world to make good use of their design thinking and design skills to solve problems and make the world a better place.

This year, a new prize is added to TISDC, named Brand Specified Special Prize: Environmental Sustainability Award. This prize is sponsored by TPCA Environment Foundation. The foundation aims to look for designs that could help deal with the issue of sustainability of the Earth. The jury panel will select work “with significance of environmental sustainaiblity” among the shortlisted entries in the product design category to win the prize. Hope students from Tunghai University’s Department of Industrail Design could seize the chance to pursue this prize. Last year, Tunghai University’s Department of Industrial Design had many students participating in last year’s competition. This year, hope students from Tunghai University could join this year’s competition actively like last year. We really look forward to even more excellent entries from Tunghai University.

In the end, TISDC would like to show its special thanks to Prof. Li-Hui Lee, chairperson of the Department of Industrail Design, for helping TISDC arrange today’s promotional campaign, which was a great success.

The promotional campaign of 2020 Taiwan International Student Design Comptetition (2020TISDC) is drawing to a close. Today is the twenty-second stop of the journey. The executive team of 2020TISDC is honored to have the opportunity to promote this year’s competition with the design students and teachers from the Department of Creative Design of National Yunlin University of Science & Technology.

On 26th May, Tuesday, the associate project director of TISDC, Professor Jun-Hong Chen, was appreciated to be invited to National Yunlin University of Science & Technology for the promotional event. Professor Chen not only encouraged students to participate in the contest and compete for high prize money but also hoped that the students could gain more experience via participating in international design competitions in order to solidly accumulate their creative energy. The theme of 2020TISC is “Action.” This theme is derived from the SDGs: Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the United Nations in 2015. The United Nations hope global citizens could pay attention to the problems we are facing when trying to make the world more suitable and sustainble to live and start to take immediate action to reach the 17 goals in the SDGs by 2030.

Due to the great support of iSee Taiwan Foundation and Sayling Wen Cultural and Eudcational Foundation, more than 15  international design associations special prizes will be presented again this year. For student designers, this prize is rather valuable and precious. Thus, we hope students could seize this great opportunity to join 2020 TISDC and show us their best designs. In the end, TISDC also would like to thank Prof. Wang-Chin Tsai of the Department of Creative Design for supporting TISDC’s promotional event, which ended successfully.

This year, the online registration and work submissions of 2020 Taiwan International Student Design Competition starts on May 1st and will end on July 20th. That is, participants now only have less than 1 month to submit their entries. At the same time, after four months, the domestic promotional campaigns at design schools almost come to an end. On June 16th, the executive team of 2020TISDC came to the last stop, I-Shou University, to let more design students know about the Competition. Thanks to the invitation from the Department of Creative Product Design and the active participation of professors and students of this department, the promotional campaign was a great success.

During the promotional campaign, project manager of 2020TISDC, Ms. Chen, not only explained the competition regulations but also shared some of the winning entries of previous years with the students. By doing so, we hope that students could get inspired and come out with some sparkling ideas for their designs. The theme of 2020TISDC is “Action.” “Action” could mean doing things immediately. It could also mean turning ideas into real movements. “Action” could relate to the Sustainable Development Goals (the SDGs) proposed by the United Nations as well. Basically, the concept of “Action” exists in our daily life. Through this year’s competition and the setting “Action” as this year’s theme, we hope that students could pay attention to the lives and environment around us, thinking about how to make good use of design thinking and design skills to solve problems. This is the “Action” that we all should take immediately.

In the end, we would like to thank Prof. Chen Chien-Nan and Lecturer Lin Yung-Chun of the Department of Creative Product Design for the great support and assistance they gave to us. 2020TISDC looks forward to the entries from I-Shou University. Hope they could win many awards!

Special thanks to TPCA Environment Foundation’s support, which created a spark to the TISDC this year. Due to the foundation’s great support, TISDC had the chance to hold the lecture in the theme of ‘Environmental Sustainability’, providing different aspects of thoughts and observations in the field of design.

The first lecturer Gideon Loewy from Denmark (currently as the founder and CEO of Scandinavian Designers) led the audiences to rethink the important issue of ‘Environmental Sustainability’ and used the RAG design to differentiate design when having the discussion of ‘Sustainability.’ There will be a difference when thinking on the perspective of individuals or corporations of whether to decrease the environmental impact or to improve the positive influence.
Lastly, Mr. Loewy used the 17 goals in the SDGs as example to organize aspects in society, economy, society and governance, leading students to choose their specialty or interest in order to think and design.

Peter Morehead from the U.S.A (currently as the co-founder of Permaculture Institute) shared from individual living environment as a scope showed how he apply sustainability in design. He used ‘regenerative design’ as his core value to share how he used different design to reduce the consumption of resources, pollution and reusable design from small detail to bigger scope of community rebuild. We’ve seen the philosophy of Permaculture design from Peter Morehead which we should- take care of the earth, the people and share the spare one.

The Design Masters Lecture Series came to a wonderful end with these two outstanding lectures.

Thank you all for participating the 2020 Design Masters Lecture Series X Environmental Sustainability. We hope to see you very soon at our next Lecture Series in October.
