With the help of the Creative Economy Agency, TISDC held a promotional seminar at the Bangkok Design Week on February 5th, 2023 (Sun.). An estimate of 70 teachers and students both joined in person or live online.

The speaker, Associate Project Director Professor Sheng-Min Hsieh of Asia University, stated that this year’s theme “Compassion” is attached with UN’s SDGs: Sustainable Development Goals. TISDC hopes that students can link themselves with the SDGs: Sustainable Development Goals that was proposed by the UN in 2015 and are striving to achieve in 2030. We’d like students from all over the world to care more about the daily things in life and to make the world a better place by putting themselves in others’ shoes with a caring design mindset. The 17 SDGs are issues that designers and world leaders pay great attention to nowadays. These issues include hunger prevention, poverty, water resources, marine resources, as well as gender equality. We believe that students can showcase their creativity throughout diverse and meaningful works.

It was a huge honor to invite our 2020 Visual Design category judge, Tnop Wangsillapakun this year. He is also the founder and design director of Tnop Design. Three years ago, during the peak of the pandemic, TISDC adopted an online assessment method, and Mr. Wangsillapakun happened to be our judge that year. He was really surprised with the online system at that time. Mr. Wangsillapakun also mentioned that some students aren’t really quite familiar with the SDGs, but he believes that they can all find inspiration in their daily lives. Everything around us can be interpreted from different aspects, and ultimately they are all related to the SDGs. Mr. Wangsillapakun encourages Thai students to participate in our competition, due to the convenience of online registration. He also shared some advice concerning visual design, for example: tips on how to quickly catch judges’ eyes with your works and recommending students to create a complete work along with a brief concept.

In the Q&A session, a student was curious about how Thai students were doing in the competition. The speaker, Professor Sheng-Min Hsieh, stated that Thai students had outstanding performances in the Digital Animation category and won many prizes in the past. Also, Thai students specialize in using various mediums to create different product designs. Works created by Thai students easily stand out since they’re diverse and carry a strong ethnic style.

Associate Project Director Professor Sheng-Min Hsieh of Asia University would like to thank Mr. Wangsillapakun for his support and sharing. Once again, we want to thank the Creative Economy Agency (CEA). Without their support and help, we would’ve never made this event a huge success.

As the 2023 TISDC overseas promotion kicked off, Project Director Prof. Apex Lin and Associate Project Director Associate Professor Hsiao-Wei Fang paid a visit to the Deputy Governor of Aichi Prefecture, Shinichiro Furumoto on February 3rd. The visit was arranged by Mr. Mutsumi Teranishi, who is currently a Member of Aichi Prefectural Assembly and who also worked under Dentsu Tokyo as the producer for Expo 2005 in Aichi. The President of Chubu Creators Club, Katsunori Watanabe and CEO Akio Ogawa also joined the meeting with the team.

The meeting was full of inspiring discussions, Prof. Apex Lin expressed his gratitude to Japan for donating vaccine doses during the pandemic to Taiwan. He also appreciated that International Design Center NAGOYA invited him several times to be jury member, workshop lecturer, and to hold exhibition. With the assistance from Chubu Creators Club and International Design Center Nagoya, the TISDC has been successfully promoted in Japan and has received positive results.

On February 6th, Project Director Prof. Apex Lin and Associate Project Director Hsiao-Wei Fang led a campus promotional campaign in Nippon Designer Academy of Fine Arts where around 25 professors and students had participated in. This year’s theme “Compassion” echoes with the UN’s SDGs: Sustainable Development Goals. It’s hoped that students can connect their design with the sustainable goals proposed by the UN in 2015, which is set to be achieved by 2030. We’d like students from all over the world to care more about the daily things in life and to make the world a better place by putting themselves in others’ shoes with a caring design mindset. Through this oversea promotional event, we hope to see more students from Japan joining the TISDC this year.

On the day of the campaign, Professor Lin and Associate Professor Fang also visited International Design Center NAGOYA for its 30th anniversary event where student posters from Taiwan and Japan are exhibited. We want to again extend our gratitude to Chubu Creators Club as well as International Design Center NAGOYA for always being incredibly supportive to the TISDC.
