Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) 2023 Campus Lecture: Circular Economy is officially launched!

The first lecture of this year was held at the Chinese Culture University on March 3rd, 2023 (Friday). Designer Po-Wen Lee from FONG YI CONSTRUCTION gave a wonderful speech – “Exploring Architecture Design In Popular Culture”. It was a great honor to be there at the Department of Architecture and Urban Design, together with the Sprout Project of Design-International Design Competition (IDC) project manager. There were about 20 teachers and students participating in the event.

Designer Po-Wen Lee analyzed contemporary humanistic issues, creative trends, and even future architectural design and imagined urban planning from the perspectives and scenes of movies and video games. From these works, we can see human beings’ thoughts and expectations for future interior design, road planning, urban design, urban planning, greening, sustainable thinking or architecture, etc. Designer Lee also said that video games are a modern way to observe the architectural design, environmental atmosphere, and divisional structure of the future world from a first-person perspective, and deeply experience the conceptual imagination of these video game creators for the future.

In addition, Designer Lee also shared the differences in teaching between Taiwan and other countries, the trend of future architectural education, and the SDGs and ESG issues that are currently popular. He shared various construction projects in Taichung City that himself participated while working in FONG YI CONSTRUCTION, such as livable building facilities, vertical greening, multi-storey terraces, and centering on the livable building regulations of Taichung City, introducing the popularization and promotion of green buildings.

Campus Lecture: Circular Economy came to a successful conclusion. Special thanks to the TPCA foundation for its support. It really added excitement to 2023TISDC, and we believe it will provide teachers and students with more thoughts and observations from different sharing.

On March 3rd 2023, Taiwan International Student Design Competition is honored to cooperate with the Denmark designer, Christian Baun, to hold an online promotion for students from Zealand Erhvervsakademi. Mr. Christian Baun introduced TISDC with detailed information including the theme of 2023 and participation rules. There were around 15 students and teachers online and onsite. TISDC has become an internationally famous student design competition in recent years. Not only did TISDC receive many entries from different design departments and schools, but also attracted many students by its features – no entry fee, International Design Organization Award and so on, hoping to compete with students from around the world through entering the competition.

Thanks to Mr. Baun again for his big help, and also being the bridge for TISDC and Denmark, hoping to let TISDC be seen by more and more people. We hope to have more future collaborations and to share Taiwan Design Power with Denmark.

Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) will be launched this year, and the campus promotion was held at Chaoyang University of Technology on April 24th. We were grateful for the invitation from the Department of Visual Communication Design at Chaoyang University of Technology, which had provided the opportunity for the TISDC team to promote the competition on campus.

This year’s theme is “Compassion.” This theme corresponds to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 proposed in 2015. Through this promotion, we introduced award-winning works from previous years, fully explained this year’s competition theme and registration process, and shared the emotional journey of award-winning students. Coincidentally, one of this school’s students was the winner last year, which makes these students even more enthusiastic about participating. We hope this time they can also create unique design works.

We would like to express our gratitude to the teachers and students of the Department of Visual Communication Design at Chaoyang University of Technology for their support and assistance, which has made the TISDC campus promotion event a success.

This year’s TISDC campus lectures on circular economy have started, and I am very happy to have been invited to give a circular economy lecture at Tatung University today. I am also honored to have invited designer Zhang Zishan from Oh! Design Studio as the speaker for this lecture.

Designer Zhang Zishan began her lecture with the topic of “Circular Design as You Know It,” introducing students to what circular design is and how improving the product’s regenerative and restorative capacity is a strategy to achieve the goal of “zero waste” and fulfill social responsibility. The designer also shared circular design products published by Taiwanese brands for sustainable development goals, as well as design cases in which Oh! Design Studio participated. She reminded students to start with a sustainable mindset, aim to improve existing designs in life with the purpose of optimization, and although they may face many challenges, she still hopes that students will continue to create designs with the goal of sustainable development and fulfill their responsibilities as global citizens.

During the Q&A session, students were very enthusiastic in asking questions, whether it was about the bottlenecks in the topic they were preparing to discuss or the design examples that Oh! Design Studio had implemented. I believe that both designer Zhang Zishan and TISDC program director Chen Yanting gave students different insights and suggestions, and look forward to seeing more excellent design works from Tatung University students at TISDC this year.

Finally, I would like to thank the students who participated in this campus lecture and the support and assistance from Director Lin Jiahua, Professor Li Wenyuan, and Professor Xue Jiahe!
